I've never seen makeup as expensive as SK-II's Air Touch Foundation ($165), but I just had to try it out. It's an award-winning, battery-powered airbrush foundation that sprays out an extremely fine mist of foundation. I've heard rave reviews, so my friend and I headed to the makeup counter to give it a whirl.
The verdict? My friend loved it and could see why people would splurge on it. As for me, I didn't get the fuss. To find out why, read more.
First, we both liked the realistic texture of the foundation. It doesn't look heavy, and the mist dries down to a streak-free finish. My friend loved how her skin looked flawless, almost Photoshopped — plus she liked the gadgety allure of the spray applicator. While she didn't buy the foundation, she said she understood why some people would splurge on it.
As for me, the makeup artist's application provided a glimpse into my future. The ultra-fine particles settled into the fine lines around my eyes, revealing mini-wrinkles I didn't know I had. Great! While I'm not terrified of aging, I'd rather not shine a light on the lines that are there, you know? After my Dorian Gray moment, I couldn't wait to remove the foundation. Not sure why it worked so well on my friend and was so, uh, revealing on me, but it's a "try before you buy" product if one ever existed — and if you happen to have a hefty $165 to spend on foundation in the first place.

2That is insanely expensive! The only situation in which I'd pay that much is if it truly was a miracle and it made my skin look absolutely 100% perfect! (that foundation doesn't exist by the way...)

6I've lusted after this for so long, SKII is a quality skincare company & I've always been interested in the their foundation, especially since its so unique, and (I think) futuristic. I don't think I could every justify spending that much on foundation- but I guess the refills are not as expensive as the first time you buy it, where you pay for the spray canister AND the foundation... still though... $160?!

10The refill retails for $90 which means it is wayyyy overpriced in the original packaging. From the description of the product on the Saks site there is nothing special about the foundation itself. Perhaps if it had treatment properties, like being infused with serum etc, other then that no thanks!

14My cap for foundation is $50-60, not spending more then that, ever!
15Thanks for your input Bella! While I would never spend that much for foundation (or practically any makeup related product), it is good to know I am not missing all that much.
16And to think I just thought dropping $65 for b.e. refills was a rip off....
I found the same problem with another spray on foundation--it makes the smallest and finest of lines look huge! I have to fight hard enough to hide the lines, I'm certainly not going to pay $165 to highlight them!

22After reading the article in the new Instyle with Cate Blanchett where she talks about using their products, I looked into them. I was blown away by the prices, but then she can afford it, right? Thanks for the review.
23Hi-hate sharing this but I LOVE that foundation, it is a must if you have the money for it. I have been using it for while now and my skin to start off is very good thanks to genetics & my daily sunblock ritual but at 27 yrs old I have skin that looks like I'm a 17 year old. I've received numerous compliments on how good my skin is-so if you can afford it it definitely does help. Keep in mind our skin is the largest organ on the human body and your face is the first thing that people see everyday.
