Sarah Jessica Parker is Allure's February cover girl, and the accompanying feature is direct about SJP's appeal among women: Unlike many Hollywood stars, she hasn't done the requisite nose job and related "tweaking" that's so common today. The interview doesn't shy from examining some potentially uncomfortable territory, such as being named the Unsexiest Woman Alive by the jerks at Maxim. In the story, she opens up about being a nontraditional beauty, and I'm curious as to what you'll have to say about her comments.
- On being named the Unsexiest Woman Alive by Maxim:
“My instinct was that it felt personal. It was really about ‘We don’t like her.’ Who were the judges and critics? I would like to ask them, ‘What exactly is it that you personally find not sexy about me? Is it my figure? Is it my brain that bothers you?” - On men who prefer airbrushed women to real ones:
“My impression is that what they find sexy doesn’t make them very interesting or unusual or special. That makes them common.”
For quotes on being pressured to change her appearance, read more.
- On her "unconventional" looks:
“For so long, I didn’t play the object of attention or affection. It wasn’t until LA Story that anyone cast me in a role that had my sexuality as a point of interest or focus or operation. I just wasn’t examined in the same way that a ‘pretty girl’ would be.” - On being asked to change her looks for the industry:
“There were some not-terribly-veiled conversations. Anything from as silly as plucking my eyebrows to getting my nose fixed. Nothing that stayed in my brain for very long.”
Of course, Sarah Jessica has had huge success as an actress and entrepreneur, but I like the fact that she's getting ever-so-slightly political here. She's right — men who expect women to be flawless are not very special. (And she turns it around, too, mentioning that she likes her men with a little natural body odor.) So, I kinda love her more than ever. You?

She's fantastic! I appreciate her outlook on being uniquely beautiful.
1She seems like a pretty confident and strong women! Go SJP! Show them what you got (and what everyone wants)!
2i love sjp and i thought maxim was way out of line even making that stupid "unsexiest women" list. that's so mean and no good can come out of publishing something like that.
3good for her! I'm glad that there are celebs out there who can embrace their natural, imperfect beauty! I am so sick of all of the starlets who look the same. Nicole Kidman is such an example of how Hollywood morphs uniquely beautiful women into straight blond haired, button nosed clones.
4Yeah, the Maxim thing was so misogynist. Not just sexist... misogynist. Just really hateful. I always thought that mag was just dumb, but now it's on my "poop" list. Glad that SJP addressed their cruelty.
5SJP, simply amazing!
6Love her!
7good for sjp for addressing her feelings in a smart manner....
8She comes across as strong and confident - I love her!
9Maxim sucks.
I admire and adore SJP even more now!
10Maxim does suck. It's obvious that talent, natural beauty, charisma, political awareness and intelligence aren't traits that count as "sexy" to them. SJP is a fantastic role model and a striking beauty as well. Three cheers to her for speaking out.
11I never understood why Maxim thought it was a good idea to create an 'unsexy' list.
Just because someone might not be considered the Sexiest, doesn't mean they aren't sexy at all!!
I personally think she is very attractive and that her strength and intelligence make her even more beautiful
12I will always love SJP. Carrie battles with Kerri Russel, as Felicity, when I think of my favorite television characters. She has such a wonderful outlook on what it means to really be a woman. I admire her, and despite other people's opinions I think she is beautiful and stylish. I don't usually read Allure, but I will read this issue!
13I actually find her incredibly unsexy but she's always intelligent and a good actress so I respect her work.
I honestly wouldn't expect better from a magazine like Maxim, though, and honestly I'd take anything they said with a huge grain of salt. Considering the fact that they've featured Paris Hilton before, I wouldn't necessarily trust their taste in women anyway!
14I absolutely LOVE SJP! I think shes beautiful. So what if she doesn't fit the ideal. Who in the hell does? And shes right, who WERE the judges, because Amy Winehouse should have won that title, not SJP. I can't wait to read this issue of Allure!
Keep your head up SJP, WE LOVE YOU, eff em!!!!
15Maxim is run by a bunch of idiots. I never cared before and now they are on my "list". Like we even need a negative list like that anyway.
16That's awesome. She's awesome.
17I've always respected and admired her and now I like her even more. Maxim can suck it--they wouldn't know sexy if it bit them in the collective ass.
18I LOVE the way she answered their stupid list. First of all, for not pretending it didn't mean anything, and then for meeting it all head on and saying they're defining themselves not her. When I've seen her in interviews I've been pleasantly surprised by her sweetness and intelligence. She's fabulous.
19the people that voted or whatever to come up with the unsexy list are probably men who could not even dated a woman like SJP in their dreams!!SJP we love you x
20Oh come on!!! I love sjp, but have you seen her in real life? Or what about even her Covet commercial? She has tons of lines around her eyes, yet on the cover she appears flaw-less. I think sjp is fine without the airbrushing, but every celebrity doing cover/promo work in a magazine is airbrushed.
21I love Sarah Jessica. Maxim sucks...sorry, we can't all be Heidi Montag (newest cover girl...and who would want to be?)
22i personally don't like SJP's looks, but tht doesn't mean nobody else does and shes a great actress.
Boo to maxim for comin up with the unsexy list.
I like the fact tht SJP is confident and didn't succumb to presssure to change her looks.
23i love this woman and i thinks he is by far one of the sexiest women in hollywood. sexiness isn't just about the face. she's not conventional-looking but she has a great body, is stylish, is intelligent, seems sweet, and is happy/confident. those men think that sexiness is all about big breasts, showing skin, etc. they miss the pt. sjp may not be the best-looking woman in hollywood but she is still sexier than the majority of those women b/c of her good qualities. it's nice that sjp realizes how dumb these men are. they're probably the same men who fantasized about girls like paris, who are just plain trashy with no substance
24I think Maxim only likes women willing to show their pieces in their mag. It seems to be only young actresses looking for attention or their 15 minutes of fame. It is a mens magazines though, but I bet their main subscribers are all under 25. I've been subscribing to Allure for 5 years and they are just now getting SJP on the cover/interview?! Long wait!
25I love how she's HERSELF and doesn't feel the need to run out and get plastic surgery...she's a great role model. I love her.
26I like that she hasnt succumbed to the pressures of plastic surgery. Diversity of looks is much appreciated
27i think the guys at maxim are a bunch of a-holes... seriously... who even cares what they find unsexy?
28sorry not all women are willing to change who they are so they dont make an 'unsexy' list... she's beautiful just the way she is.. she influenced a whole generation of women to be fashion-forward and embrace their unique appearance... i think thats incredibly sexy
also, id love to see what these guys look like... honestly- who would ever want to date them... they're going to die alone infront of their X-Box if they keep this attitude up!!!
29confidence .... now that is sexy
30i commented on how much i adore her on popsugar, but i m h o..i would take SJP over a paris hilton or mischa barton, or whoever maxims "bimbo du jour" is...
31any day of the week!
Good for her, daring to be confident *gasp* in an environment that pressures women to hate themselves...
32I love her confidence, strength and style.
33She looks GREAT at 42.
I don't personally find her physically amazingly beautiful, but she is attractive and her attitude makes her very beautiful. I'm always SO glad to hear celebrity women speak up for not looking generic.
34Go SJP! you show them!
35She's fabulous, period.
36i tend to think most times she looks good, sometimes she doesn't- either way though i like her attitude and agree with her comments! i'm glad she doesn't feel the need to "fix" herself.
37Good for SJP!!!! And I'm not sure anyone should take Maxim's opinion so seriously considering they are featuring Heidi Montag in an upcoming issue.
38I like her comment about how common it is for men to be enamored with airbrushed perfection. As long as they are, I think they deserve what they get, which is usually women who are as transparent and dull as the paper they're on. I think her self confidence is a guise, though. Whenever I've seen her in interviews, she's always been very girly and vain.
39I think she's very unique, and very pretty. I feel bad for her being labeled unsexiest. At least she appears confident and intelligent.
40Maybe we should all learn a lesson from her. For me it's incredibly sad to hear women commend her for her unique beauty and strength and for speaking out about this, then in the same breath slap down other women in the spotlight-- stating they should have been voted unsexy or calling them bimbos. It's like a good lesson gone to waste. I don't think she would appreciate that kind of behavior on her behalf.
41I love SJP; she's such a lovely role model and a breath of fresh air in this airbrushed-hollywood era.
42i love her...but she HAS had a nose job!! check it out at awfulplasticsurgery.com
there's a more than obvious difference between the pics from 1994 vs. 2003...and it's not make-up or contouring
smells like the ashlee simpson kinda denial....
43yah, the maxim list is very dumb.
44I always like SJP. she speaks well and seems like a genuinely nice person.
My goodness, the poor woman. You have to be pretty solid not to be thrown by something like the title of Unsexiest Woman Alive...I admire her for the way she's handled it. Can't say I'm behind her on the men-with-BO thing, though...
45SJP is wicked awesome. Period.
Also, I can't say why anyone has higher expectations from Maxim. They're lame and misogynistic. Gross.
46I love you, SJP. Just the way you are. Good for you for staying true to yourself and doing things your way.
47She is one of my favourite stars. She has her own kind of beauty and she is a goood actress as well. And of course she has wrinkles around her eyes, she is 42! I am ten years younger and they are slowly starting to show...
48I think SJP is very sexy. She is confident and that IS sexy.
49SJP BBB! yay to brain beauty behavior, you go lady!
