Usually the color gray is reserved for cashmere, not cosmetics. But as it turns out, gray is continuing the transition into beauty products, and it can be a chic and versatile color for nails. Leading the way is the always-innovative Rescue Beauty Lounge with its dove-gray shade Concrete Jungle ($18).
A great and inexpensive alternative is Revlon's Steel-Etto from its Dark Pleasures line. It's a little darker, incorporating a beautiful shimmery silver tone into the hue. If you're still unsure about gray nails, try out Wet N Wild in Sparked. At only $1.99 a bottle, it's a risk you can afford to take!

I don't mind grey
1Very different from my fav gunmetal but I would give it a try.
2$18 for polish? No thanks!
I used to have a gunmetal polish from OPI that was the same exact color as my old Jeep. I loved it so. Sigh. lol
3Ew, this color would make me look like a corpse...I'm too pale for it. I prefer a darker gray for sure.
4I really like the gray polish, but I'm not spending $18 a bottle. I think I'll check out some of the cheaper alternatives.
5Loves that color.
6My fingernails are currently painted gunmetal gray. I was able to find it for about $6.00 at Ulta. Can't remember the brand, but there are definitely cheaper versions out there.
7I probably would go with the Wet N Wild one just because it's that cheap. The Revlon one looks nice too. But yea probably going with Wet N Wild.
8I'm so fair skinned, I think this would make me look like I had dead people hands... not the most attractive thought, is it?
9I love MAC's Nightfall, it's a rich charcoal.
10What goes around, comes around! I have a few shades of grey, gunmetal, silvery from years ago. I like the change. During the disco days I used to polka dot my nails with the grey as the dots. Really.
11Interesting color, but not my personal style.
12It looks interesting, definitely, but it's not something I would wear - I think I'm really too pale for it....
13pretty!
14i would try it
15Gray is my favorite color and it seems like it is becoming just as trendy for nails this spring as black polish was for the past couple years, but not nearly as harsh. I've bought two versions by Essie called Great Expectations and Body Language (which has a lavender tint to it) at Ulta approx. $7.50
16I do like gray, so it'll be interesting to see how it translates into nail polish, but I think gray in cosmetics is ok in general, like a gray/charcoal smoky eye. I really love the gunmetal color, especially in jewelry.
17A light to medium shade of grey on the tips with a nice sheer off white looks pretty fantastic as well. Pearlized (or pearl) top coat is great too as long as the tips have no metallic or shimmering qualities (too much, I think, but it might work, never tried.)
18I don't mind giving gray a try.
19BEEN WEARING SILVER SO WHY NOT
20I've worn all kinds of dark polish and grey is nice.
21yay for grey..i love it!
22i like deep dark colors, but i'd try the grey
23I love grey anything, so a few months ago I set out on a quest to find good gray nail polish. I found nothing! They either didn't have grey at all or it was too shimmery and close to being silver. I mixed white and black nail polish and created my perfect gray tone! It's not like I can do it everyday so I reserve it for special occasions
24I want to see a pic of what this looks like on...I prefer the darker colors for winter, but grey might be a good change.
25Miss Kastar - this is a really stupid question, but what method did you use to mix nail polish? I bought Essie Great Expectations, but it's a little too light. I'd love to mix my own darker shade, but can't think of a good way to do it. Thanks!
26I'm intrigued...
27ok so I've been searching for a smokey gray nail polish for the past 2 or 3 months now. I have found NOTHING. EXCEPT in one of the recent People Magazines, I saw that they featured Rescue Beauty Lounge's gray nail polish! I like the darker shade than this. But yes, the price is outrageous!
28I'm mixed about this. :S
29I didn't realize grey was back in... time to hit the drugstore..
30I wonder how many had considered that gray is more commonly considered a 'male' color, just as black was a few years ago (think of suits and cars). But, as we have seen recently, these darker, less saturated colors are finding acceptance in the female world now as popular nail polish colors.
Would it not be entirely out of the question then to consider that it might be becoming acceptable for men to wear nail polish in these colors? The men of today are interested in taking care of themselves, many seek manicures and pedicures, facials, body rubs and other forms of personal care services to help them feel good that were at one time intended just for women .
We also see women these days wearing more masculine styles in the form of their clothing and hair - and these styles can look quite good on them! More men are wearing earrings, highlighted hair and other jewelry, even mascara (think of Johnny Depp) - and it's being accepted as 'in style'.
I predict that we will begin to see even more traditionally 'female' styles and colors on men in the near future. Men are not satisfied anymore with being just the 'basic' looking sex. They want to add some fun and flair to their lives, and nail polish may just be an area where they can express that kind of self-expression.
Besides the rock stars, nail polish on men's hands is probably too high maintenance for most guys to keep up because it chips easily when doing guy stuff like car repair and rock climbing. But wearing it on their toes is a way to help make their feet more presentable and show some style. Let's face it, most guy's feet are just not that well taken care of, and if there was more attention paid toward them, he would have an incentive to keep them looking good, wouldn't he?.
A pedicure and polish (in a color that is considered more 'masculine' today) is something that may make more women sit up and take notice, rather than run from the typical crusty, yellow, callused feet that most men display.
Well, it's worth considering. We may only be at the leading edge of this style trend, but if my predictions are correct, it may be a good time to go out and buy some stock in Man Glaze, Urban Decay or even OPI.
31Guys, it's time to polish up!
I have been wearing grey for years! It's my favorite...
32does anyone know of a cheaper version close to that color??
33I work at Forever 21, we just received nail polish in grey. It is very popular among the trendiest customers. They sell for $2.80. XoXo
34I like grey a lot because it looks so chic with just about anything. But, it's hard to find a shade that looks good. I do like the color Harley from Zoya. The subtle pearlesence in it is totally awesome!
My husband also likes gray too (he wears it only on his toenails). He had some discoloration in his nails, so the nail tech giving him a pedicure a few months ago suggested maybe he try polish to cover it up. I loved it on him!
