Bésame is gearing up to launch a new product next month called Gingerbread 1930s Waterproof Mascara. I can see how the name might lead you to believe that it's auburn-colored, but it's really named after the food. The mascara has been scented with eight natural conditioning oils and food coloring to smell like gingerbread. You know me with scents: I can take it or leave it, especially when it's really sweet, but those of you who like the smell of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg will go wild for this.

When I first heard about the launch, I was curious about how it differs from Sculpture Lash. After consulting with the brand manager, she told me that it conditions lashes resulting in a shiny and polished finish, that it washes off easily and that it's waterproof. Similarly, it is paraben-free and safe for sensitive eyes.
To its credit, I agree about the shine, and it really does wash off easily with soap and water. Another bonus: it didn't clump at all (huge plus). I also love the gold and chrysanthemum packaging. Gingerbread Mascara will be available in black, brown and plum shades. So if you're ready for a scented mascara, you might think it's pretty, uh, sweet.

Ooo, this is interesting.
I'm going to have to try out the plum when it comes out.
1Nifty!
2Yummmm what a cool idea!
3mmm i like this!
4At first iw as expecting it to BE gingerbread colour! But I am happy to hear I cna get my black that SMELLS like gingerbread
i am sold!
5Interesting....mascara that smells good wasn't something I'd thought about until I started to use Dior's mascara....and it has a really pleasant scent...so I'd be willing to try this stuff too!
6I don't know if I want my eyelashes to smell like food.
7Nothing beats the Dior rosewater scent but i would love to try this.
8Interesting, but why is it called "1930's"?
9Sounds interesting... love the packaging!
10Jude C -- I am totally with you on this. I read this and thought it sounded disgusting. I would rather use unscented mascara, thank you very much!
11I don't know if I'd want to put anything with cinnamon near my eyes... it seems like it'd be irritating.
12Interesting, but I have to ask--None of the oils are from the spices, right? As in, artificial scent?? All of those are spices that you would neither want to directly inhale, apply to skin unless greatly diluted, much less use anywhere near the eyes! Just trying to clear up how it't OK for sensitive eyes.
13I think my eyes would get irritated!!
14Hi Bee333,
15Great question. I actually called the owner to ask her directly. So yes, the mascara is actually made from the oils in the spices, however the flavor components (which can be irritating) have been removed so that only the scent remains — just like in perfumes. They are also allergy tested and paraben-free and Besame claims they are safe for the most sensitive eyes. I hope this helps!
Huh, I guess I don't see the point. (I'm trying really hard to see if mine smell like anything at all) If my husband ever said to me "mmmm, your eyelashes smell delicious!" I think I'd die laughing!
16I agree, Bluecanary...completely pointless. I mean, sure, it probably smells nice, but this is not a priority of mine when picking a mascara.
Weird.
17Very interesting, I don't think I would dry it based purely on the scent, if it happens to work really well and doesn't get icky at the end of the day then I would buy it.
18Scented mascara.... is just a bit of a weird notion, I'm afraid.
19I agree. Silly. Who's going to be sniffing your peepers?
20Weird. I know they claim it's safe but I just can't wrap my mind around putting ginger and cinnamon anywhere near your eyes.
