It's the holiday season, and we're getting in the spirit with our favorite holiday gifts. We've been rounding up our picks for everyone in your life, and now we want to give you something from our amazing giveaways. For day four of our Favorite Holiday Gifts Giveaway, we are giving you the chance to get dressed and pampered from head to toe with $1,000 to J.Crew and $1,000 to Sephora.
We look forward to the holiday season all year for plenty of reasons, including all the occasions that we get to do gorgeous, glamorous makeup. But every once in a while, a girl just needs a break, so we resort to the nudes and neutrals we love in the Summer months. And the glowing results still look amazing, like Jennifer Garner proved last night. The actress stepped out looking fresh-faced and radiant at the Beat the Odds Awards. Check out the product picks to pull off Jennifer's look below!
With Elizabeth Banks and Reese Witherspoon stepping out last night with similar blond bobs and makeup looks, we were seeing double. Elizabeth attended the Legoland tree-lighting ceremony with a festive red lipstick and shimmering shadow, while her hair was styled with a slight wave. Reese also went for a crimson lip at the Children's Defense Fund Beat the Odds Awards, but her shade was more brick than bright. Her newly shorn bob was blown out for a smooth, sleek look. These two could pass for twins, but who pulled off the look best?
Carrie Underwood took to the small screen last night as Maria in The Sound of Music, and instantly, her braided updo became one of our favorite things! But, we've got plenty of other inspiration on the classic milkmaid braid style. Alice + Olivia featured the braided style during its Fall 2013 show at New York Fashion Week with oversize plaits and red lips. And we've even spotted Katy Perry — in an Alice + Olivia ensemble, no less! — sporting milkmaid braids and red lips.
The trick to wearing the style in cooler weather is keeping it slick and neat. While the braids of Spring and Summer tend to be a little more on the tousled and wispy side, Fall's braids require a bit more upkeep. To keep things looking slick, spritz your hands with a strong-hold hairspray, like Rusk Strong Hold Shaping and Control Hairspray ($14), and run them over the braids to tame flyaways. You'll have instant milkmaid braids in a snap, whether you are headed to the Alps or a holiday party.
The holiday season is rife with glitter nail polish of all sorts, from flakies to hexagon shapes to everything in between. And while this variety of lacquer is festive and fun, the removal process isn't always quite as joyous. To remove glitter nail polish, you don't have to use mountains of cotton pads and gallons of polish remover. Just follow these simple tips below to make it easy on yourself.
- Step 1: Completely saturate a cotton ball with acetone nail polish remover. Next, set the soaked cotton ball on your pinky nail and wrap it completely in aluminum foil.
- Step 2: Repeat the process on each of your fingers and thumb, pressing down on the foils while the remover works its magic.
- Step 3: Let sit for about five minutes and then slide the foils off to reveal glitter-free nails.
- Step 4: Repeat steps one through three on the opposite hand.
Alternative: In lieu of foil and cotton balls, use white felt with acetone nail polish remover to get the glitter off. What are your tips for wiping away glitter lacquer? Share them with us in the comments now.
Although our heads explode every time Kate Middleton's hair makes an appearance, she had a surprisingly different 'do at the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Kate actually swept her headline-making mane into a loose yet gorgeous ponytail. Instead of the sleek, slicked-back ponytails we tend to see on the red carpet, Kate's was elegantly loose and accented with a black velvet ribbon. Is this a sign that Kate is pushing the envelope with her red carpet styles? We're not sure, but it's definitely not stopping us from looking at her royal ponytail from all angles.
With a surprising amount of new launches every year and veteran scent stars like Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, celebrity fragrances are in a category of their own. This year, we've seen One Direction expand its stardom with Our Moment, which made for a hilarious ad, and Justin Bieber released a new scent, The Key, with an equally interesting short film. This year marks Britney Spears's 10-year milestone in the fragrance industry, and she didn't miss out on the opportunity to launch Island Fantasy and her song "Perfume." But that's just the tip of the iceberg in all the celebrity fragrance launches this year. We're narrowing it down to the top 10, but who gets your vote for the best perfume launch of the year?

The goodness of olive oil has been documented in countless ways and using it to cleanse your face is just one of them. While there have been many versions over the years, DHC Deep Cleansing Oil ($28) is a standout. It's olive-oil-based, making it not only excellent at melting makeup away, but also perfect for delivering natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and omega-3 nutrients to your skin. Apply it directly to dry skin while your makeup is still on, massage over your complexion, and rinse away with warm water. You'll be surprised at how clean your skin will be — without that taut, dried-out feeling.
