Felted soap is one of those things that has seemingly always existed but is now suddenly everywhere, from a fancy Fiat Luxe round at Anthropologie to this "Soap Opera" felted soap on Etsy. But what, you may be asking, is felted soap, exactly, and why are we, the well-washed masses, all clambering for it now?
Basically, before there were loofahs and shower poufs, people used a plain old bar of soap sewn into a cute little boiled-wool covering. The wool is exfoliating and has antimicrobial properties, the soap lathers better, and you don't end up using as much soap per wash. With Etsy's increasing popularity, lots of tradition-based handicrafts and subcultures (steampunk, anyone?) are getting more mainstream attention, and it seems the collective unconscious—and mass market retailers—have picked up on this particular product. So that's the story on felted soap. Suds away!

Minx manicures, the metallic-colored professional-only nail wraps, are becoming more popular thanks to celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kelly Clarkson. Most recently, at an LA Lakers game, Hayden Panettiere wore a gold foil manicure. Seeing her auriferous manicure got me to thinking that perhaps I should try my hand at sporting some Minx, and according to the brand's website, the nearest salon is a just a mere .2 miles away from my apartment. What about you? Have you tried — or do you plan on trying — a fashionable Minx mani?
Most of you are not planning to spend more on beauty in 2010, but that isn't stopping some Japanese brands from rolling out pricey face creams. Cosmetic giants Shiseido, Kao, and Kose have all recently launched creams that sell for 120,000 yen — that's just over $1,300. "Unlike in Europe and the United States, it's not a certain class of people who are buying such luxury products. It's ordinary women in their 40s and older," think-tank researcher Tomoyuki Yamazumi told Reuters.
Stateside, Cle de Peau's Synactif cream sells for $1,000. (For those prices, the creams had better make me look like Halle Berry and wash my dishes.) I'm unconvinced that high price tags alone mean that a product is amazing, but what about you? What's the most you've spent — or would spend — on a cream?
Cat Deeley looked casual and cute outside the BBC Radio One studios in London. She wore black skinny jeans and kept warm with a feminine white pom pom scarf and soft green leather jacket (similar in color to this one by Tory Burch), adding a Pauric Sweeney python bag and tough combat boots to give the look more of an edge.
