When people think Valentino, they think elegant, feminine designs. And it's this aesthetic that follows suit in the perpetually glamorous beauty looks sent down the runways with the clothes. Ballerina buns, berry lips, and natural makeup are what we've seen on these models, whether the season be Spring or Fall. Gear up for Paris Fashion Week by reliving some of the most beautiful moments of the Valentino runway.
Ever wish you had thicker hair or sculpted cheekbones? Well, stop wasting time dreaming, and try these beauty tricks from Allure that will maximize the art of illusion.
I know a thing or 20 about faking stuff, primarily beauty stuff. On the daily, I'm faking everything from full brows and long hair to my hair color and my lash length . . . I could go on. Natural beauty is amazing, but doesn't always come naturally for me. Sorry Gaga, I definitely wasn't born this way. So here are the tips and tricks that are crucial to a good beauty con.
Flat hair be gone. If it's not one thing, it's another. For me, it's the issue of fine, completely non-voluminous head hairs. I usually remedy these dire straights with clip-in hair extensions, but let's be honest — that's not every lady's jam. Luckily, there are some tricks to faking that Victoria's Secret model-esque hair, with little to no drama. First, skip out on the hair oil/silkening products pre-blow dry. You need to roughen up your business, not smooth it out. Try using a root lift or mousse instead to build a voluminous base. After you blow dry, create waves with a curling iron or flat iron. Using texturizing products like beach spray will also help to add fullness. I also always carry a mini size of dry shampoo on my person to sop up any midday oily gross factors and add more volume and texture throughout the day.
Beef up that pony. If you're afflicted by "tiny topknot syndrome," also known as an undersized bun, due to a lack of thick, lustrous hair, light teasing works wonders on this dreadful situation. This remedy is also great for a sad sack pony tail. Once your hair is 'tailed, tease a little with a comb, then spritz with either surf spray or dry shampoo. You can leave your voluminous pony as is, or twist it up into an actual human-sized bun. Socks need not apply.

If you love marzipan, amaretto, and just about everything else that's concocted with the deliciously sweet and nutty scent of almonds, then you'll love Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap in Almond ($17). It might not be the cheapest among the body-care category, but it has a rich, pure aroma that'll make you want to linger in the shower probably a bit longer than you should. But you won't, because you're earth-conscious like that.
Besides the fact that this liquid soap is organic, it's not too gag-me sweet. Since the scent is natural, it doesn't linger around or smell fake on the skin, unlike certain overly perfumed products. It may take a while to get used to the watery texture of this castile soap (it's made purely from vegetable origin). Once dampened, though, it produces a nice, foamy lather that's both film-free and moisturizing. If you're looking for hours of entertainment, we recommend reading the fine print on the bottle, where you can catch the philosophical rantings straight from the late Dr. Bronner himself.

The Art Institute of New York City was one of just two schools in the entire country whose work was represented at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Ten of our students and alums had the opportunity to showcase their lines at the event. The real-world experience they gained, along with the exposure to the workings of the fashion industry, is as valuable as anything they learned in the classroom.
Check out this slideshow for some of the creations of The Art Institute of New York City students and alums as featured on the Lincoln Center runway. And plan to be on hand for our Oct. 19 Open House event. RSVP today at aiopen.com.
