Acne Vaccine Could Stop Pimples in the Future

Could an Acne Vaccine Be on the Way? Signs Point to Yes!

Exciting news for acne sufferers: bumps and lumps could someday become eradicated with a vaccine. OK, so that's just a possibility at this point, but scientists are embarking on an intense two-year project with hopes of making that dream into reality. French pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur and UC San Diego scientists believe that by targeting the immune system, the experimental vaccine may help the body neutralize P. acnes, the bacteria that cause acne. Soon, the vaccine will enter the first phase of clinical testing; if results look good, we could someday be an injection away from having clearer skin.

I would like to be a guinea pig for this experiment *lol*. But seriously I think that some of the major cosmeceuticals companies will try to 86 this because it will cut into their profits. There's more money in the treatment than the cure.

I have no idea, and it would probably be at least a decade before it came to market. At that point, I will probably still have hormonal acne. Sigh. Anyway, if the vaccine were effective, and it's able to help the body fight off P. acnes, then it should help with any kind of acne. I imagine it won't stop hormones from creating more sebum, but in theory it would fight off the bacteria that loves a sebum-rich environment. Voila: less acne.
