American Apparel, the brainchild of controversial Canadian Dov Charney, is known for bringing colorful, edgy basics (and occasionally sleazy ads) to the masses. Now, the chain has just added nail polish to its retail repertoire. The polishes include 18 new shades ($6 each, $15 for a 3-pack) and are free of formaldehyde, DBP, and toluene.

The colors were developed and inspired by the brand as a whole. For instance, Office, a minty green, was taken from the color of an accounting notepad used in brand's main offices; Downtown LA, a bright red, pays tribute to the location of American Apparel's manufacturing facilities; and Hassid, a black tone, is meant to be symbolize Charney's Jewish roots.
