Some people complain that cosmetics are a relatively modern thing, but that misconception should finally go away with a new discovery. Researchers have found signs of "harvested and cooked seafood, reddish pigment from ground rocks, and early tiny blade technology." All are estimated to be 164,000 years old—give or take 12,000 years, of course. Working near South Africa's Mossel Bay, the researchers found 57 pieces of ground-up rock believed to have been reddish or pinkish-brown. Sounds like early humans had the mineral makeup concept down pat.
