Beauty Flashback: Baby Dolly Surprise

Does anyone else remember Baby Dolly Surprise? It had slipped my mind, but running across this old commercial brought back memories of wanting the doll. You could make her hair "grow" and retract by yanking on her arm. "That's ridiculous," my mom said to me whenever I'd point it out. (She was right; a friend's BDS was pure junk.) 1. Poor Kiki in her giant purple dress... but her hair is awful cute 2. I had Lil Miss Dressup - where you could draw on her clothes and hair with cold water. She stopped working after a while though.

That doll was not ridiculous- it was fabulous! I spent hours playing with it. Of course, I grew up to be a hairstylist and own a beauty salon...

My sister had a doll similar to this but smaller, and she had a butterfly in her hair. These dolls remind me of another one I used to have called Lil Miss Makeup!

In the late 60's we had Beautiful Tressy or Beautiful Chrissy, you'd press in the belly button and pull on the pony tail and the hair grew. To make it short again, there was a little wheel on her back that you turned and it went back inside. Worked great and it still does... I still have my red-haired Chrissy doll, and my daughter played with it! (In her original dress no less!)
