The New Way to Do a Milkmaid Braid à la Beth Behrs

Last night at the Monsters University premiere in LA, Beth Behrs did a new take on a favorite Summer style.

Last night at the Monsters University premiere in LA, Beth Behrs did a new take on a favorite Summer style. While we're used to seeing the classic milkmaid braid, Beth added even more texture by pinning up two fishtail braids instead. Her stylist Aviva Perea curled her hair in one-inch sections wrapping each piece in opposite directions. Then she used Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo ($5) all over her hair to help add texture. Perea made four braids, two behind each ear. The braids were half fishtail with the ends being regular three-strand braids. She pinned up the braids to frame Beth's blunt bangs and left tendrils around her face to draw attention to the colorful eye makeup.

Her makeup artist, Jamie Greenberg, created the colorful eye makeup with a mix of pink, purple, and burgundy eye shadows to make her blue eyes pop. She started by applying a primer to lids for staying power. The pink shade on Beth's crease is Mark i-Mark Eye Shadow in Luvstruck ($7) mixed with a darker burgundy shade on the outer corners. Greenberg then used a purple hue to line the eyes. Finally, she layered black mascara with YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Mascara in Burgundy ($30). Even though Beth wore this look on the red carpet, it's easily translatable to any Summer soiree this season.

Laser Hair Removal: The Firsthand Truth

Laser hair removal has come a long way from when it first hit the beauty scene.

Laser hair removal has come a long way from when it first hit the beauty scene. Before, treatments were painful and only worked on a limited range of skin tones. Now, removing your hair comes with minimal discomfort and anyone from fair skin to dark tones can reap the benefits, which are plenty. Each session creates a 10 to 15 percent reduction in hair; overall, you can remove about 90 percent of your hair in any desired area. Not bad, right?

To give you a firsthand look at exactly what happens in a laser hair removal session, we ventured to the experts at LaserAway in Santa Monica, CA, so you can be prepared before, during, and after your first treatment. On Kirbie: Greylin dress.

Nail Emma Watson's Modern Faux Bob

We had to do a double take when Emma Watson stepped out for the This Is the End premiere last night.

We had to do a double take when Emma Watson stepped out for the This Is the End premiere last night. The actress's faux bob was so believable, we thought that she'd actually cut off her hair. But the updo was simply an illusion . . . and a beautiful one at that. Instead of the typical faux bob we tend to see that's full of messy tendrils, Emma's style was structured and sleek. And it's also quite easy to pull off yourself:

  1. Start by prepping your damp hair with a frizz-fighting serum, like Bed Head Control Freak ($18).
  2. Part your hair deeply to one side and then blow it dry, using a large round brush and a concentrator nozzle on your dryer. While blow-drying, focus heat from the roots down to blow straight, but keep the end of your hair taut around your brush to create a large curl. Don't brush this curl out — it'll be easier to fold under if you leave it intact.
  3. Once your hair is dry, run a flat iron from your roots to about ear level for added smoothness.
  4. Using a bristle brush, smooth the front two sections of your hair down and back and secure with a bobby pin at ear level. Spray a healthy amount of hair spray to keep things in place.
  5. Take each curl one by one at the bottom of your hair and roll it under itself until your faux bob is at its desired length. Pin each curl against your head by sliding a bobby pin through the center of the curl against your head.
  6. Once all curls are secure, gently run your bristle brush over them to fill in any gaps to create one cohesive look. Finish with a generous mist of hair spray, like Drybar Money Maker Hairspray ($25).
