With superpretty makeup and sparkling accents making over Hollywood's hottest, it's hard not to have holiday-party beauty fever. And if you're still not sure what you want to do with your hair and makeup for end-of-the-year festivities, give a polished updo or a sexy, smoky eye a try. Take a styling cue from our 10 favorite beauty moments this week, and we're sure you'll shine through the rest of 2013.
All year long, we keep a close eye on what's going on in the beauty world, but there were a few things that made us drop everything, gasp, and then scream OMG! Here is a list of those moments, from that time Beyoncé showed off her pixie on Instagram to our bank-breaking beauty shopping spree on Net-a-Porter.com. It's your cheat sheet to the most important beauty news of the year just in case you missed it the first time around (where were you?).
When Louis Vuitton tweeted a photo of Gisele Bündchen in its latest (and Marc Jacobs's last) campaign, we were immediately distracted by the top model's super voluminous, textured, and — dare we day — Jersey hair. Just take a minute and dissect it with us. Gisele is draped around one of Louis Vuitton's gorgeous bags, sporting smoky eyes, contoured cheeks, and some seriously teased-up, sexy tresses. And she is working that bump (sans the Bump It).
In a world where people are loving Kate Middleton's sleek blowouts and talking about how touchable straight hair is, it's nice to see a nod to the hair our mothers would have loved in 1986. There are two things you need to have to re-create Gisele's look at home: texturizing spray and a good teasing comb. After styling your hair the way you want to, section off the front part. It should be as wide as the mid point of your eyebrows and extend back to the crown of your head. Pin the rest of your hair away.
Divide the sectioned-off hair into three sections. Working from front to back, backcomb your hair with the teasing comb at the root, spritz with a texturizing spray, and then smooth it back with the comb again. Continue with the other two sections. Use your fingers to smooth down the front section of hair and to give it that piecey, textured look that Gisele's has. Finish with a healthy dose of texture spray, a few spritzes of hairspray, and your best Gisele smolder.
From Beyoncé's fan incident to Miley's alien-esque bleached brows, we're recapping all the major beauty moments from 2013. Jennifer Lawrence shocked everyone with her pixie cut, while Jennifer Aniston combined her beauty knowledge with her business savvy by working with Aveeno and as co-owner of Living Proof. Marc Jacobs blew us away with his massive beauty line, a 33-year-old Justin Bieber fan received $100,000 in plastic surgery to look like his idol, and Miley, well, was just bein' Miley. Which moments were your favorite? See them all in our breakdown. On Kirbie: Contrarian jacket, Equipment blouse
We've gotten to the point where we're comfortable not knowing what Miley is going to do next with her hair (see her shaved eyebrows and wig play). But during her performance at Jingle Ball in Florida, Miley brought back a style we'd seen already: her duo of buns. She'd first debuted this hairstyle at this year's VMAs (below, left), but this is the first time we've seen it since.
Miley is obviously partial to the topknot, seeing as it was her hairstyle of choice when her hair was long enough (above, right). We're guessing that these two tiny buns she's been wearing are just the latest incarnation of that style. But now the question is, when do her double buns get their own Twitter handle?

In case you had any doubts about whether Cara Delevingne was as close to perfection as you can get, let us ease your mind. Exhibit A: Cara Instagrammed a sneak peek photo of her new YSL campaign, and everything is working in it. In the snap, her sexy, tousled hair is the perfect frame to her face, which is painted with an intense cat eye and cherry-red lips. And, of course, her signature look-at-me eyebrows are glossy and bold. Need we say more?
This has been a pretty killer year for Cara. Aside from walking countless runways during Fashion Month and landing YSL's Fall beauty campaign, the Brit has added a bunch of accolades to her résumé. She's the current face of Burberry's beauty campaign and Chanel's Resort 2013 campaign, and she took her turn down the catwalk for the ubiquitous Victoria's Secret Fashion Show just last month. Google pins her as the most-searched person in the UK this past year, and her Instagram following is 3.49 million strong. Basically, the girl is killing it, and with this smoldering YSL ad, she's ending the year on a high note. So cheers to you, Cara!
The holiday season means a whole lot of glitz and glitter, and we're big supporters of that. But if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by all the applications and touch-ups that go into these holiday beauty looks, relax. In case you've missed it, celebrities like Nicole Richie seem to be forgoing their makeup artists's chairs completely and stepping out bare-faced. Jessica Simpson and Cameron Diaz have gone so far as to document their makeup-less faces on social media.
Seems crazy, right? But it doesn't have to be, especially since it's such a good idea to let your skin go bare and breathe from time to time. Preparation is key, and the first step is getting enough sleep. "If you're not getting enough sleep at night, you'll see it in your skin," says dermatologist Amy Wechsler. She also advises that you always wash and moisturize your skin, especially before bed, and make sure you're being gentle when you're exfoliating. "It's not supposed to hurt or burn," she explains.
But the most important part is to wear sunscreen every single day. "Every morning, after you wash your face, you should apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 20 to 30, depending on the season." Adding these simple steps to your skin care routine can help prep your face, so when you do finally do decide to go makeup-less, you'll look as glowing and gorgeous as Nicole, Jessica, and Cameron.
The Golden Globe nominations have been announced, which means we're getting excited for the bevy of amazing red carpet looks that'll be happening a month from today! We've already been hearing award season buzz for 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, and American Hustle, but the television side is just as exciting, too! Five words: Orange Is the New Black. And other not-so-surprising nominations include Girls, Downton Abbey, and Scandal. Now that all the nominations are in, we want to know, which leading ladies are you most eager to see gracing January's red carpet?
It's time to kick your holiday beauty inspiration into high gear, and luckily, celebrities this week were decked out in party-worthy looks you can try for your next festive bash. Jamie Chung's soft curls and cherry-red lips are a holiday classic, but we also saw unexpected ways to play up your eyes and easy hairstyles to copy. Consider this your holiday beauty prep.
