Since it's St. Patrick's Day, I've been thinking about classic Irish beauty. Being that so many Irish women are fair-skinned redheads, I thought I'd suggest a few friendly tips and tricks on how to enhance your specific type of beauty. And, of course you don't have to be Irish for this advice to pertain to you, silly — these red-headed celebs aren't!

- Protect Your Hair Color: Whether or not you enhance your hair color, you'll want to give it shelter in the sun so that it doesn't turn orange or brassy. Try misting your hair with an SPF shine spray and use color-enhancing hair products to replenish and maintain your color in between salon visits.
For three more makeup and skin-care tips and tricks for redheads, read more.
- Makeup Colors: When looking for a foundation and/or a powder, it's best to steer away from anything too pink or yellow. In particular, products targeted for those with olive skin will be too harsh. Generally, it's best to choose a neutral, light-beige shade. Additionally, when possible, avoid orangey-red, orange, and overly strong coral shades of lipstick. However, gold makeup is gorgeous on redheads, as are champagne, taupe, and brown eye shadows — so go crazy!
- Eyebrows: Frame your fair skin by filling in your eyebrows. Depending on how dark or light your hair is, you'll want to match your brows one shade darker. Going too dark is going to look unnatural, so choose a soft, auburn, or taupe powder.
- Skin Care SPF is a must. Since your skin is fair, it will burn easily and can cause wrinkles, redness, peeling, premature aging, and cancer. Be sure to wear a moisturizer with SPF 30, and when possible consider buying cosmetics with SPF in the formula for extra protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

I love red hair! I always wished I had been born with it, but sadly, I'm just a brunette.
1I love women with red hair, men on the other hand-no thanks.
2Me too, Theovercoat! I love red hair!
I think about going red sometimes, but I'm not really into coloring my hair much. Maybe when I start getting grays!
3Actually red heads are a dying breed. Most Irish women have naturally dark hair.
4well i for one am a redhead and sometimes i hate it! im slowly learning to embrace it although i wish it was a hint darker. it is reddish brownish but i wish it had more of a brown tint. anyways...thanks for the tips bella!
5I recently went back to my natural color of red.. Which I got from both sides of the family. Medium auburn red thankfully.
6I use to dye my hair red but couldn't keep up with the maintenance but I loved having red hair
7I've been coloring my hair red for the last few years and I've been loving every minute of it!
8I dye mine red and I love it! Thanks for the tips, Bella!
9I wanna be a red head so bad... I mean, I wanna dye it either this year or next year...
I'm still stuck with the tone of red to choose from.
10Red or redish-brown?!
Nice, red heads are cool. Will you be doing anything similar for brunettes or raven haired girls? (a la Liv Tyler, Ashanti, Aaliyah, or Angelina Jolie like?)
Thanks!
11i love this! As a redhead with curly-hair, beauty sites often overlook me!
I have to criticize Ashlee though, she just doesn't seem like a red-head and I so enjoyed her with her dishwater blonde hair... oh well.
12ALSO, I LOVE pink makeup, so I must disagree with the avoidance of that. I look much more natural with a touch of pink than anything else.
13My best friend is a redhead. I would forward this too her, but I'm sure she knows. She's fabulous.
14I'm just not feeling Ashlee Simpson as a red-head... but the rest of the ladies are gorg!
15I've always wanted to have red hair
16for the summer im dying my hair strawberry blonde. ill definetly use these tips!
17That HAS to be the most perpetuated myth ever - that pink doesn't suit redheads. If anything, when I went copper, pink looked better than ever. Even hot pink eyeshadow, which washes me out with my natural ash blonde, looked great. So ignore that part.
18Woowoo! Representin'!
19I have always liked having naturally red hair. It's weird because strangers so often want to talk to me about it, and I'm a reserved person, but I really like my hair. My mom is a redhead and she is covered with freckles and has a sort of straw-like texture to her hair, but i was really lucky because I got red hair, but with my dad's silky texture and I have no freckles. Sometimes I hate being pale, I love being a red head. And I wear anything I want, including LOTS of pink, which everyone always says I look great in. Just like any other hair color, your skin tone and undertones aren't the same for every person, so some red heads can wear pink or red and look fabulous.
20One of these things is not like the other.......
21I grew up with fiery red hair courtesy of my Irish heritage (yes there are fewer natural red heads all around today). Lately my hair has started to turn to a muted reddish brown color. I keeping thinking about dyeing it red to match my old hair but it seems like a lot to keep up with. Great tips though. Even without the blazing hair my skin is still very fair.
22An after thought: I look great in pink clothes and make-up. It picks up the pink undertones of my skin and I think it creates this great glow. I have never avoided the color.
23I feel like I am one of the only people who has never colored their hair!!! It's dark auburn and turns more orange-y in the sun.....does anyone know if SPF will keep it from getting lighter in the sun, even if it has no dye on it? It's a natural process, I know, but I would think SPF would keep it from changing color??
24I'm toying with the idea of dyeing my blonde hair red. Like a light auburn. Anyone have any advice? I've been blonde my whole life and I'm sick of it right now!
25Red heads are the sh*t!
26Oh fleur, I have advice, my friend does it at home a lot and it washes out in a couple days. She is blonde. So if this is your first time I would recommend going and getting it done somewhere and then buying the red shampoo to make it last. That is my advice!
27Ah. See, I'm redheaded and I only shy away from purples and cool tones.
28Thanks j2e1n9! I was planning on having it done at the salon because I figured it would turn pink or orange if I did it by myself.
29I think Isla is the only natural redhead in that bunch.
Nicole Kidman should keep her hair strawberry blonde. She looks 100 times better!
30i love debra messing
31Great tips! And I agree with the SPF!
32I agree with the pink deal. it looks really gorgeous with redhair. i've noticed that aqua works really well but that might be my particular coloring. do any other natural redheads like aqua?
33I've always thought it would be really cool to have red hair - like dark red hair, but not really as brown as auburn - but have never been able to get up the nerve to dye it because I also really love my natural dark brown color... But these tips are really good - and my redhead friends seem to follow these guidelines anyway!
34I love my red hair!
35I've colored my hair red for as long as I can remember. In fact my in-laws think I'm a redhead since my Mom colors her's red too. I don't have the heart to tell them it's from a box. I even colored it when I lived with them and I left the box out so they could see. They just don't get it.
36i have a hard time with most shades of pink due to the combination of my very pink skin and the shade of my hair (red, not blonde, but not dark at all). i lovelovelove purple and most greens. i can do fuschia if it is purple-y. shades of red, orange and brown are iffy, but usually doable.
i used to have a really hard time with makeup people trying to balance out my pink complexion with yellow makeup... ick. i love yellow and i can't wear it at all.
i never color my hair and i love it when i walk into salons for a haircut and they want to know who colors my hair. it is my one point of serious vanity. as soon as it starts greying though, i think i want it to be all white.
37i guess the best way to describe my hair color is that my mom's is auburn and my dad's is blonde and i have a little of both - i have weird auburn streaks in the underneath part.
38I have colored my naturally dark brown hair a vibrant, bright red for about 10 years now. I love it, and get compliments so often on how well it suits my complexion. I live in an area with hard water and have hair with low porosity, so my red fades very quickly if I don't take the necessary precautions.
I highly recommend using L'Oreal Colorist Collection (formerly ARTec) Color Depositing shampoos and conditioners/moisturizers in the Reds collection. There are several different hues/tones of red for all shades of red hair. (I use "Red Clover.") This stuff is so potent that it actually can stain your fingernails or bathroom surfaces if you don't wash it off immediately.
39I think when red is done right, it can be GORGEOUS. Think Ann-Margret. OMG, how beautiful! If I went red, it woudl be a shade or auburn.
40Thanks! Great tips.
41As far as colors - yeah, it (apparently) really depends on the person. But my experience fits with Bella's tips.
Every time I wear pink or read I worry that it will bring out the redness of my skintone. I'll do blush and occasionally a lipstick (but really, I like to play up my eyes more than my lips) but I would NEVER EVER wear pink makeup on my eyes, even though I think hot pink would be fun, because they always look too pink to begin with (I'm trying to get in the habit of carrying a small bottle of eye drops with me). Basically I feel like if I add to it, I'll look like I have pink-eye.
And I'm thoroughly convince that purple looks amazing with red hair, though apparently that's not everyone's experience.
Cool shades work for me and I'm partial to turquoise and blues. (I hear ya, sophia7706!).
I also concur on the yellow thing. I've really wanted to wear mustard shades this past season, but I feel like the contrast would make me look to pink.
42Is that legit? that a similar color and the opposite would bring out that color?
I love red hair. I so wish I could pull it off with a little freckles across the nose. I have tried before and I just don't look good. I haven't tried strawberry blonde, only auburn, and it was bad on me.
43I have natural red hair, hated it as a child love it as a grown woman
44im a natural ginger lol and i hate it , i went through my life being bullied so i dyed my hair a brown and i look better , i have had people i dont even know saying oh my god i love your hair lol i hate freckles the only thing i love it i have dark blue eyes lol oh and i can pull off soft pinks , blues and greens
45I am a natural red head, more auburn and I always liked it but always had SO much trouble finding beauty tips!! My hair is curly too and sometimes so curly that I can look like carrot top if its too short, LOL!
46i love having my red hair!!!when i was younger i wanted my little sister's blonde hair soo badly, but i couldnt help loving myself with the red
47Im a natural redhead and i absolutely LOVE it! ive gotten compliments on my hair all my life. all those redheads out there who want to change their haircolor, you are stupid. red hair gets you noticed, and even though red hair is NOT A DYING BREED, it is rare and unique. and freckles come with red hair too, so if you hate your freckles, get over it. Freckles are just the redhead's version of a tan.
48Im a natural red head. its always soooo hard to find beauty tips to complement my hair and its hard growing up in cali where the status quo is a deep tan!!! but im learning to embrace it. were unique!!! ive found that a beige foundation with rosy lips to brighten your face and gold or taupe eyeshadow looks amazing. Don't hide your freckles! and stay awesome.
49oh and turquoise and aqua are good colors to wear they make my natural red hair look brighter!! i love my natural red hair its my best feature. redheads: embrace it!!! you're awesome and unique and everyone wishes they had our hair!! haha
