Bella Poll: Have You Ever Been in a Beauty Pageant?

In the small town where I grew up, the local beauty pageant was kind of a big deal. Recently, my friend and I were reminiscing about her brief stint in pageant circuitry. While I wasn't one to parade around in a swimsuit and sing showtunes, my friend was all for it. In fact, her talent was belly dancing — and showing off her rock-hard abs.

Besides Sandra Bullock's character in Miss Congeniality, other celebrities have entered these beauty competitions, and many got their starts in showbiz as a result. What about you? Have you taken any walks along the runway, dazzling the crowd with your perfected wave and bright smile?

I've never been in a beauty pageant before-- but I did do some modeling when I was around 10. I've always been a girly-girl, and although I would never want to be in pageants anymore, when I was younger I loved watching Beauty pageants, shows and competitions.

Many and I don't think they are degrading or demoralizing or whatever other words snarky people wanna use. This is America, a free country, no one forced me to be in a pageant. A little icing for the cake - I modeled and entered pageants (and won a few too) till I was 29 years old and made plenty of money doing it. And since I made lots of money, I don't work now and can read your comments or do whatever I wanna do all day. :)

Nope, and I would never! I hate beauty pageants, how they judge girls by their appearances and bodies.

Jessiebanana, not every woman who has been in a beauty pageant lacks of self-respect. Some (or many) might, not all of them. Sorry, but you're generalizing.

I haven't, but a friend of mine did and we went to it and I loved it! We hooted and hollered for her SO LOUDLY!!! It was great! I think they're great, as long as the person in the pageant wants to be there, being forced into it isn't cool. I'd never put my kids in one. But I am oddly obsessed with Toddlers and Tiaras!

I have and would do it again if I were 12. After the age of 12, it gets complicated, ugly and fake.

I did a scholarship pageant once in school... no swimsuit competition, but I did an interview, physical fitness, talent, and poise [walking in my fancy dress], and answering questions on stage. Totally didn't win. I wasn't expecting to, we all knew who was going to win beforehand [it wasn't decided, it's just kind of how it goes]. My mom said I got the most applause for my talent though. My dress was a little too slinky for a school scholarship pageant, but I loved it.

No, I did modeling as a toddler though. My mom quit taking me to auditions when someone suggested she help me gain weight and that my hair would look better if it was darker (I used to have white-blonde hair).

Yes, when I was 4 or 5 years old :OOPS: I took the second place...the girl who won had green eyes and wore her hair in pigtails.*I still think I was robbed! :raspberry:

No- I don't have a very good smile- I feel like pictures I see from pageants the girls always have really great, photogenic smiles. But I really like watching Tots and Tiaras or whatever that show was called, those families were pretty nutty!
