Benefits of Mushrooms For Beauty

Mushrooms: More Than Just Mind-Altering Substances

I'll leave the tasty mushroom recipes up to Yum, but what's a Bella got to do with these sometimes-poisonous and/or hallucinogenic fungi, anyway? Used in Asian cultures for thousands of years, shiitake mushrooms are known for their ability to reduce inflammation, improve vitality, and increase elasticity of the skin. Hence, you'll often find this mushroom variety in skincare products — particularly those with antiaging benefits.

Shiitakes also help exfoliate, give antioxidant ingredients a boost, and are an excellent source of kojic acid, a natural skin lightener that helps fade spotting from the sun and acne. I absolutely love the Dr Andrew Weil line from Origins, it's done wonders for my skin. I'm using the serum for both the eyes and face, and it's a killer price at $60 for the face and $45 for eyes, but after 3,5 months of using it, more than half of the product is still left while I use it twice a day. Combining it with the Make A Difference toner and moisturizer, and 'topping it off' with Murad sunblock SPF30, and my skin has never looked better! The soothing mask from Dr Weil, Origins is also great to calm stressed skin.

100% Pure also sells an anti-aging concentrate/serum that includes shiitake as a main ingredient. I would go with that since it is absolutely natural.
