The Best Long-Wearing Lip Stains (That Won't Leave You High and Dry at Your Next Cocktail Party)

The Best Long-Wearing Lip Stains (That Won't Leave You High and Dry at Your Next Cocktail Party)

We're excited to present this article from one of our favorite sites, Allure!

I rarely wear lipstick, even at formal events, because the color usually spends more time on my wine glass than on my actual lips. Even long-wearing lipsticks have let me down—the color stays put, but I don't like that many of them leave my lips feeling as dry and scratchy as sandpaper. (I'm sensitive—what can I say?) Enter the new generation of lip stains that last long and keep your mouth moist. I gave several a go, to discover that these are the best.

To find out what made the cut, just keep reading.

Ten hours strong: Stila Açaí Crush Cheek & Lip Stain. It only comes in one color, a bold fuchsia—that you will become addicted to. The brush-pen makes it easy to apply perfectly before it dries, and the color stays put all night. (I tested it at my high school reunion, and it survived what felt like dozens of cheek kisses and drinks.) This lip stain works so well, in fact, that even after washing my face (and lips) before bed, I woke up seven hours later with the fuchsia still hanging on (albeit fainter, but still—that's dedication).

Two hours strong: Revlon Just Bitten. Available in seven colors (I recommend the brown-brick Forbidden), this stain goes on like water, then dries within seconds and remains vibrant for about two hours. And, to keep the color from feeling like paint on your lips, the other end of the stick houses a clear, highly moisturizing balm to apply over the top.

One hour strong: Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stain Pencil. No, it doesn't stay on much longer than an hour — but this stain feels as good on the lips as peppermint balm and creates a sheen most stains can't match. It comes in six different shades that Allure's editors are addicted to. My favorite is Joy, a warm peach.

What are your favorite lipsticks or stains when you don't want to reapply all night? And how long do you expect your color to last?
