Brown Eye Makeup Tricks For Fall

2 Tricks to Instantly Perk Up Your Eyes

The following post was written by Alexandra Haygood, who blogs at Vast Aspiration and is part of POPSUGAR Select Beauty.

As the leaves change colors to autumnal hues, our beauty palettes follow sync. For some this may mean switching to a rich chestnut eyeshadow, an auburn-hued blush, or deep burgundy lips. For utilitarian types like myself, it's all about meeting a new need. I know which eyeshadows and blushes work best for my features and am open to experimenting with different shades of lipstick all year round, but the need to make up for the loss of Summer's sunkissed skin and brighten tired eyes takes center stage. This becomes most evident when I miss even one hour of precious sleep in the colder months. After weeks of searching for the perfect concealer, I finally marched up to the beauty counter one day and asked for the very best in concealer. The answer to my seasonal color dilemma came in a sleek gold tube as if it was the golden ticket to a Fall color boost. Meet Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Éclat ($40).

With an indubitably fitting name (éclat literally means brilliant or dazzling), this concealer covers a multitude of sins and fakes a full night of sleep. Whether I'm running errands on a Saturday morning or putting on a full face of makeup for an evening event, it never fails to give just the right amount of coverage and radiance my skin needs. Using the built-in pump and brush applicator, I swipe it from the inner corner of my eyes and underneath the bottom lashes making sure to cover any dark circles. Then, and most importantly, I use my finger to blend.

For bright eyes, I switch to a deep brown eyeliner. This Fall I really love Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Liner in Chocolate Brown ($20). The promise of long-lasting, waterproof-wear gives me confidence that it will outlast the harsh Fall and Winter weather. But, what I love most about this liner for Fall is the ease of application for a perfect cat-eye — my go-to look for brighter eyes. With the marker-tip applicator, I apply a thin line starting at the inner corner of my eye and gradually increase width as I reach the middle of the lid. To get the cat-eye, you just need one quick (and small) swipe upwards at the outer corner of your eye. You don't need to worry about it being perfectly even with the other eye as long as there isn't a dramatic difference. And with two small beauty updates, my Fall color dilemma is solved!
