Definition: Burdock Root


Last weekend Mr. Bella and I headed over to a Korean restaurant for some late-night eats. Some of the dishes were unfamiliar to me, but one ingredient in particular stood out — burdock root, as I had heard of it before as a component of certain beauty products. A member of the sunflower family, burdock root has most traditionally been used medicinally to help purify. It's typically eaten as a root vegetable, and often found in Korean and Japanese cuisines. If you're a health nut, perhaps you've seen it at your local health-food store, too.

What's so great about this root for beauty then? An anti-inflammatory, burdock root can help clear skin problems like acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis. It also improves shine and body in hair and deter scalp problems and conditions. Thus, it's commonly found in hair, scalp, and skincare products. Check out a few samples below:
