Can You Be "Too Old" For Long Hair?

At 58, Crystal Gayle doesn't want to trim her famous floor-length hair. Nor do other women with long locks, including Iman, Beverly Johnson, and Diane Von Furstenburg. And yet it's pretty rare to see middle-aged women wearing hair past their shoulders. One Daily Mail writer wonders if she's too old to wear long hair. I say it's best to wear your hair as you see fit, no matter your age, but what's your take?

Wanna keep your youth, Ladies? Keep your hair long! As long as possible, and you'll soon have all the other jealously green women your age "admonishing" you to cut. I recently saw 3 60'ish women with short coifs around a lunch table. I assumed the woman with the LONG golden hair at their table was a daughter from the back. Well, I was stunned when I saw her face, and she was a contemporary. All four were nice looking, good shapes, but the one with the tresses blew me away! It's always that way.

Depends on the woman and the style. I've seen older women that look great with long hair and I've seen young women tat look horrible with long hair. hows this for a question "Can you be too young for short hair?"

Yes, I think you can be too old for long hair. You can be too old for a lot of things. But women who follow every rule of fashion and etiquette for fear of offending someone are the most boring types and I feel sorry for them in a way. They are trapped by someone else's ideal of beauty, and they are either too weak or too ignorant to be themselves. Seriously, WHO CARES how old you are? If you like it, wear it. Other people may criticize you, but you must look fantastic in your own way, or no one would have even noticed you.

What's with these age defining rules. I just convinced my mom to grow her hair long because she wanted it, but was afraid that she was too old. In my opinion, i think women actually look older with shorter and lighter hair. It says i'm too old to deal with styling and coloring my hair. It's a dead giveaway of your age. If you want short hair or long hair, go for it, but don't go with the trend because that's what your "supposed" to do. American society can be so weird sometimes.

Who falls for these stupid rules and who makes them? If you wanna have long hair, have long hair. Mine is the middle of my back and I'm no spring chicken. Some people are so uptight and young! You'll mellow with age.

It depends. Hair thins out as a person gets older and if it get too thin, short hair is a good way to boost volume and super short hair hides the thinness.

I really think that any woman of any age can have long hair. If it's cut in a style that complements her facial features and is healthy looking without split ends or dull looking. Sure, why not?

It really depends on how it looks on the person. But generally, the older the woman the shorter the hair :)

NO! You can never be too old for long hair, or whatever kind of hair that you want! If it makes you feel good, then totally go for it! There is nothing worse than being judged for looking the way that you want to look!

YES,YES,YES it does matter. Looking at a women with long hair, it draws your eyes down. Down to many chins, scary saggy neck, crows feet and laugh lines, do we want to enhance these features? If it's long wear it pulled up, a twist, a bun, a classic shape. Women get too attached to their long hair.

In our culture, long, flowing hair is considered a sign of sexuality. Look in the pages of Cosmo and there aren't a lot of models with angled bobs. Telling women that they're too old to have long hair, and that it's proper for them to have these short, gender neutral haircuts is like telling them they're too old to be sexual.

Definintely up to the individual- though I think many older women tend to keep their hair shorter because longer hair can look (for lack of a better word) ratty unless it is well kept. I have seen some do it so well though! Each to their own

Crystal Gayle always looked older than she was. The hair NEVER helped her. It really depends on the woman. If the woman has an old face, length of hair won't matter.

If your hair is in good condition, what's wrong with letting it become as long as it can be? Stuffy rule... I'm letting mine grow, and grow, and .. until it's around my fanny. Age be bamboozled. That's too fussy and serious for me. I don't look younger with short hair anyway, so no more of that. As for colouring the greys, what for? What is it with this dictate that assumes women are obligated to avoid embracing their age, and why does that age stipulate shorter, lighter (but not grey) hair? Sheeeesh. I love ya, Crystal.

I find it odd that this is the norm in our culture!! Like a lot of people have said, I think it's totally up to the person rockin' the do. Whatever they feel the most comfortable with, that's what they should have. I think that older women with long hair look just divine. I've always had my hair long (except for the few crazy moments when I was younger) and will probably continue to have it long the rest of my life.
