Chanel Noir Et Or Paris Shanghai Makeup Collection

Glitter Nail Polish Can Be Sophisticated. (Really!)

Yesterday afternoon, the Chanel fairy godmother dropped off three bottles of nail polish from the Noir Et Or makeup collection. Inspired by Shanghai in the '30s and '40s, these black and gold hues ($25 each) were first seen on the runway for Chanel's Métier D'Art presentation in December.

For the show, models wore French manicures: Gold Lamé as a base, with matte Black Velvet polish on the tips and Illusion d'Or as a topcoat. It was a gorgeous look, but for real life, we're absolutely smitten with Illusion d'Or. It's a translucent nail polish that blends tiny gold sparkles with hints of iridescence. The glitter effect is sophisticated — think stardust, not Studio 54. Worn on its own, it adds a subtle glimmer to nails. Layered over black polish, it is stunning. If you're going to splurge on one nail polish this season, this is the one.
