Dame Anita Roddick, Founder of The Body Shop, Has Died

This is some sad end-of-the-day news: Anita Roddick, who founded The Body Shop in 1976, has died. In February, she revealed that she had contracted hepatitis C through a blood transfusion while giving birth in 1971. Known for her commitment to fair trade and providing cruelty-free cosmetics, she built The Body Shop into an international company worth millions of dollars. Queen Elizabeth II made her a dame, the female equivalent of a knight, four years ago. Anita Roddick would have been 65 next month.

Anita was a great woman. She'll always be remembered for trying to make a difference. I remember meeting her a year ago and being amazed at her vitality.

That is sad...I'm not big into the Body Shop like I used to, but she created a wonderful franchise and I really admired her for being environmentally and socially conscious.

One of my first jobs was working for her company. They really try to promote values and products...pretty rare in the cosmetics industry, esp. when it started. Not to mention that as a woman she created a huge company! Well done Anita. RIP.

Heartbreaking...she is one of my heros. I can't recommend her book "Body and Soul: Profits with Principles--The Amazing Success Story of Anita Roddick & The Body Shop" enough. Brilliant, caring woman.

A lot of her concepts seem so commonplace today, but were really innovative. I like that she built a big company while maintaining her principles and educating other people about things like fair trade and recycling and animal testing.

i remember learning about her and her company in business class back in 1994. for some reason i always remembered her from that class. she was such an innovator in the cosmetic business industry. the mark she left alone on recycling when it comes to beauty was astronomical. i wish her family the best and may she rest in peace. :pray:

The Body Shop Rocks! I use the home fragrances all the time and the Strawberry body butter is my favorite. I am sad for Body Shops loss. Her vision will live on and so will fair trade.

wow thats soo sad!! well RIP!! i loveee body shop.. my mom got me my first make up stuff from body shop.. it was a pencil lipstick and a blusher.. love all the soaps, scents, and hand/body creams..
