Digital perming or "hot" perming is a curling technique that originated in Japan and has since become increasingly popular worldwide. Although the chemicals used are very similar, unlike a traditional perm, digital curls are most prominent when dry, which obviates the need for heat styling, and the curls produced using a digital perm are larger and softer, which is more in keeping with current hair trends. If you want big, glam curls, and you don't mind the expense (a digi perm can run upwards of $200), it could be an excellent option for you. (No word on whether Leighton's had one, but you could get her look with one.) One caveat, though: if you have fine hair or dye regularly, make sure you consult with a knowledgeable stylist, because digital perms can be too harsh on thin or chemically altered hair.

This would've been great to know about last year before I got a "body wave" that I absolutely hated (which looked like every other perm). When it was all said and done, I'd definitely spent well over $200 after getting it fixed.
1now I just have to find a good place to get this done......
2I had a digital perm done last year.
3If you're thinking of getting one try to go to a Korean hairdresser. Almost every woman in Korea over the age of 18 has a perm. They know their stuff.
I second the Korean hairdresser suggestion. If you have a Koreatown nearby or just a Korean salon, I would check it out. Koreans have been doing this for years and have tons of experience. Plus, the prices are a lot lower than most salons.
