Do You Agree With Rachel Weisz's Anti-Botox Statement?

There is no denying that actors need a wide range of facial expressions to practice their crafts. Some celebrities have admitted to using the treatment (see parts one and two of my quizzes), while others are quite vocal about shunning the needle. The latest to give it the thumbs-down is actress Rachel Weisz, who was quoted in August's Harper's Bazaar UK:

It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen . . . Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?

The pressure of looking ageless often comes with the territory of an acting career. But do you think it's OK for actors to get a little Botox here and there, or is Rachel right on this one?

I agree...unless you're playing a horrible woman with absoutely no taste and low self esteem. Then botox is totally approrpriate.

I hate the idea of botox, boob jobs, face lifts, etc. It's all superficial! Most celebrities who get work done look like crap afterwards--and they looked fine to begin with! People need to be happy with how they look, who they are, not with some superficial image of beauty.

I know this is harsh but I think it should be banned for everyone. As an actor I would never, ever do it. Further more I think it is awful that as a society aging is looked at as negative. If people would stop iodizing youth and worrying about looking older, perhaps we could move forward to worrying about real problems, like say pollution and our dying planet!!@#!$$*, Sorry rant over.

I disagree. I'm not a fan of Botox because (aside from making people's faces look straight up weird sometimes) it makes wrinkles even less accepted than they were before, and I think that's a shame. However, it should not be banned. It doesn't improve anyone's acting so it's not "cheating". Also, in that industry I cannot imagine the self-esteem issues people must have, so who are we to tell them that they can't do something that makes them feel better about themselves.

Agree 100%! To be able to act, you have to show expression and emotion! How the hell is that possible with a frozen face??

I agree and I agree with everyone else about the whole Nicole Kidman thing, some people just don't know when to stop. I remember Courteney Cox spoke about how she got Botox once a few years ago and felt she had no expression and swore never to get it done again. To act you need to have expression on your face, you don't have that with Botox.

I agree with her! Stiff Botox faces are undesireable on my TV or in the theater, and they're downright scary in real life. I sat across from an overly plasticized woman at a wedding reception last fall and nearly lost my appetite. Why can't we except that beauty does not equal youth? That aging gracefully is possible without the needle or scalpel?

I totally agree, I thought about kidman too, she ruined herself with all that botox, she used to be beautiful, and now her forehead is almost bigger than the rest of her head!

Totally agree - I always thought it was against the acting craft to get Botox and such that would limit expression bc that is one of the most imp. elements of acting!! HELLO. Why do we as ppl pay them so much for stiff faces and limited acting - doesn't make any damn sense! I'm just saying...

I adore her! But, I disagree to some extent with her statements. I don't mind when people use a little Botox every now and then - just in moderation, please! I think stars have a tendency to try to eradicate every single wrinkle and line though, and that causes the problems...

botox is not a performance-enhancing drug... it diminishes your performance as an actor, so naturally actors should want to avoid it on their own, as it is in their best interest to have full use of facial expressions. it does not need to be banned, because it does not create an unfair advantage in the acting world. those who choose to use botox for cosmetic reasons should deal with the consequences it has on their acting ability on their own

I agree! I think it's sad that people feel like they need to alter their appearances to fit in or become "more attractive" anyway. If we all looked the same, and all stayed young, life would be boring. Embrace who you are, your age, and what you look like!

If the role ask for someone without expression lines or wrinkles it means it is meant for someone younger than you. Be proud of your talent and experience and play your part. No botox please.
