Do You Backcomb Your Hair?

Back in my junior high years, backcombing was a very close personal friend of mine. How else was I to achieve claw bang perfection? Whether you call it teasing, ratting, or backbrushing, backcoming helps create volume, hide thin spots, and/or provides a base for updos. It can be extreme — think Lady Gaga — or it can be smooth and tame, like Jackie O. I particularly love teasing my locks when I'm headed out for a night of fun. What about you?

i tried to in high school but i never got the hang of it, my hair also wasn't healthy then either.. now i just use a bump it! :)

I'm so dependent on backcombing. It's the only way I get volume!

nope. i've actually even stopped brushing my hair, as my hair is naturally super curly and kinky (African American hair) and breaks easily without lots of moisture (that I'm sadly guilty of not supplying reguarly). So, it makes it a lot easier to keep from breaking if I just don't brush/tease/use lots of heat in it, along with weekly deep conditioning, and washing twice a week.

I don't backcomb per se but I do use a round brush to add volume back there. I have a cowlick right where the top of my head meets the back of my head (where most people wear a higher ponytail). If I don't use a round brush to the hair there up, the cowlick causes the crown of my head to lay flat and open - you can see my scalp! It's such a pain in the butt.

Never. As Fashionplate525 said, it creates breakage.Use products that does not weigh the hair down. That way, one's hair would naturally have a lot of flattering volume.

only when i'm doing a poof when i go out or something... special occasions only haha. it's the worst the next morning after i do it and i have to figure out how to make my hair normal again.

Never! Posh's hair is a little stiff looking, but I like this look much better in general. She looks pretty with less severe hair.

I only do my bangs,my hair is naturally curly,so I use a straightner for my bangs (I don't like the curly bangs)but that makes it too straight so I backcomb for some volume and finish styling with my fingers,it works out pretty good.

I did it years ago. Horrible middle school pictures to prove it. But now I don't. Although days when I'm bored at home I will play around with it but I've yet to step outside with my hair teased.

I do because, while my hair has a normal amount of thickness, it is heavy and lays flat on my head. Blow drying with a round brush and hairspray helps, but after a couple hours it falls flat. Backcombing helps the volume stay for a while longer.
