Do You Get Student Haircuts?

I owe any hair successes and failures from my college years to the Bumble and Bumble University's Model Project. I'd offer my hair up to stylists from around the country learning how to do updos using hair powder. Afterward, I'd roll into my Gender, Economics and the Media class with a full-on bouffant. The cuts and color I got were also usually amazing, and I have friends who go to the Aveda Institute for services. Have you ever left your 'do in the hands of a student?

i go to the paul mitchell school. they take awhile, but it's better than an expensive salon.

I let a student cut my hair once and NEVER AGAIN. He totally mucked it up... He cut the layers on top in the back way shorter than I had asked for and it was all irregular and weird. I couldn't get that top layer into a ponytail for months and I ALWAYS wear my hair in a ponytail :(

I cut my own hair, it's a lot easier. Every now and then I go to a salon but then I get fawned over because my hair is REALLY long and I get embarrassed.

yeahh, all the time! of course, that's only because my friend was a student who already graduated but has stiil not gotten her license - she's the only one I let touch my hair because I am so picky about how I want my hair and she does exactly what I want. plus she's one one of thosepeople who is just naturally talented - she has very good taste and is very creative, and I highly recommended her to everyone I know...

When I was in graduate school I used to get my hair done at a hair school b/c it saved some cash. But now that I'm doing well, I would not go that route again.

It's been a while since I had my hair cut at a beauty school, but I did have my hair highlighted at one just three weeks ago. She did a great job. I've also been using them for aesthetic services, like peels and waxing.

I was a BBu hair model when I lived in NYC for three years. I miss it. Generally the caliber was good and they study your hair and determine what would look suitable for you, and you would earn free products! The one drawback would be how long it would take. I regretted never bringing a pillow for my butt while I was in the chair!

i got my haircut at vidal sassoon and it turned out to be one my best haircuts ever. the students are very careful with their cutting, so i didn't have to worry about them messing up. and then the teacher comes and does the finishing touches. =D

I just did this last week for the first time. I went to a Paul Mitchell school because we just moved and I was not willing to shell over $60 to a hair stylist I did not know and for what is basically a little boy's hair cut. I was fabulously impressed with the "Future Professional's" work (not student) ;) and I plan on going back to her until she finishes school! Went to the Aveda salon in SF. I got a great haircut for $14. Just a trim though, nothing major. The student cut my hair and then a more advance student or supervisor, fixed any problems. If there were no one to fix it, I actually wouldn't come back.

I always get student haircuts. I go to the Paul Mitchell school here in SF.I go because these women and men need experience. They need to work with "black hair" or as they always say "coarse hair" though they rapidly discover that my hair isn't "coarse" just because my skin is brown. And it took me 30 years to realize but MY HAIRS GROWS BACK FAST. So if any of them ever made any errors, it'll will rapidly disappear.Plus the students are very conservative on their first cuts, monitored very tightly and listen to what you want better than many seasoned professionals.I have told seasoned stylists "I do not like layers. My hair is to lightweight to maintain bangs so please don't cut any."And they say "relax, I know what I'm doing. I've been doing hair for 20 years." Yeah but not my hair. Then they try to turn me from the mirror and section off my hair to cut layers and bangs. Nope, I usually get up and leave about then and call the beauty school for a haircut.

I really lucked out and got a great girl ( as opposed to the rest of the 19 year olds giggling and gossiping, not working) at my local school. She's still open-minded and does what I ask, and I will be so sad when she graduates in January. I am definitely following her to her first job when she does, though.

Nope! I go even cheaper - I get my haircuts from the Institute of Mom. Or from friends at school. No money is exchanged, and my hair gets its trim. Ta-da!
