Do You Get Your Hair "Done" or "Did"?

This past weekend, I had my hair done. But this weekend, a friend of mine is going to get her hair did. What about you — are you a grammar stickler, or are you more informal?

Its "done," nobody said "hair did" until the song "Work It" by Missy Elliot in 2002. True Story.

hey kids, here's a fun fact. "done" and "did" are BOTH grammatically correct. it depends what dialect you natively speak. if you're a native speaker of southern american english or african american english, your verb paradigms are going to be much different than those who speak dialects popularly regarded as "more standard" or "more correct", like midwestern english. but if you talk to any native speaker of a "did" dialect, they'll tell you--as many have here in the comments--that it's perfectly grammatical and used in other contexts as well. sincerely, a descriptivist linguist and english major

i use done cuz when i get my hair did that's when somebody from somewhere use did but down here yeah we use done!!!

how funny. if i'm get a rockin hairstyle and really do it up- i got my hair did. if the hairstyle is just ok but not spectacular-i got my hair done. if you are around people that know what the lingo is then they understand the meaning is not about being grammatically correct. for example- 'that meal was delicious' can translate to 'she put her foot in it'

I think its funny to say DID. I think most know the correct way to say it is DONE. P.S. Ima get ma herr did 2morrow!

Like a few have mentioned, in the south it's common to hear 'did,' but I always say 'done.' I think it's weird to say 'did.'

I've come to admit I have no sense of humour when it comes to dodgy grammar. :( The idea of saying "getting my hair" did is sending shivers down my spine!

I am a teacher, so I can't help but be a stickler about grammar (for example, mixing up "your" and "you're"; saying "would of" for "would have"--just a few things that drive me nuts!!!!). Getting your hair "did" just sounds wrong!!!
