Do You Keep Your Mouth Open When Applying Mascara?

While applying mascara this morning, I couldn't help but laugh at myself.

It's something I've been doing for years, and I know I'm not alone; my mouth opens wide the minute the wand touches my lashes, and my face seems to contort with every stroke.

I've done a little research into this phenomenon. Perhaps it's a way to keep from blinking or relaxes the eye muscles for easier application. Whatever the case may be, tell me how you do it.

I do sometimes, but my biggest habit is opening my eyes horror-movie wide...otherwise I get it everywhere!

it always does, and if i notice, then i close my mouth, but otherwise it hangs right open.

Ha ha! I do too but don't know why. Sometimes I catch myself and close it because I do look silly.

My boyfriend has commented on this phenomena several times. He thinks its so weird. Most of the time I don't do it, but sometimes I open my mouth a tad.

Out of curiosity, I just tried to put mascara on while keeping my mouth closed. I jabbed myself straight in the eye with the mascara wand and had to remove a huge glob of mascara smeared across my eyelid.

Yep, I'm a mascara gaper - maybe it's because I'm amazed at how good I look (hee hee)! I also, inexplicably, close one eye when I do my hair. Always. Don't have any reason to - my eyesight is fine - but I seem to be unable to keep both eyes open while fixing my hair. I didn't even realize I was doing it until my husband said something a few years ago.
