Do You Return Cosmetics?

About six weeks ago, I fell for a sales pitch and bought a concealer that I really didn't need. It's still in its packaging, untouched—I've never even opened the box. Realistically, the last thing I need is another concealer, especially if I'm not going to use it! So I told a friend that I was planning to return it, and she was aghast. She told me that she'd never return cosmetics, even if the store allowed it. Do you return cosmetics?

Yes, That is fine. As long as it is unused unopened and packaged as before. Money does not grow on trees. I found that one out in 2003!And I'm Still suffering...

I think you can. Cause you could always get home and change your mind about something and then not want it. If you didn't take it back you would be out of some money.

There are a few reasons why I would return cosmetics - the biggest being if I used it and was allergic to it. These things are really expensive, and why should I keep something that makes me sick?!?! The second is that sometimes you are in a store and you get talked into buying something you really dont need, and it was really expensive and you aren't going to use it - or you already have something just like it. If it hasn't been used, then of course return it. Now what if something was used, and you aren't allergic to it, but you just dont like it? Then it depends on store policy. a lot of drugstores will let you return something if you used it and its not your color - thats because they dont have testers. If the store has that policy, then its ok to return it. If its worth your time. And lastly, if something is defective, then bring it back and get a new one.

Other: if there is a defect with the product, the company needs to know about it. I returned a tube of Benefit gloss, because it was full of an air-bubble, and about 90% empty!!!

I used to work at a cosmetics counter. The items are damaged out, and not resold if used. I think it is okay. Department Store items are very pricey, and if the sales person makes a bad recommendation the product should be returned hassle free. Department store brands are selling both product and service. You deserve to get what you pay for.

Bottom line is that it's your money! I see it as my money, if I'm not satisfied with the product, I get that back ALL of the time. These companies have billions, and I'm not a billionaire. So you should get your money back girl! Who cares what people think.

If you are going to spend money on something you have the right to return it! You should never feel bad about that. For nicer makeup Nordstrom has the best return policy ever, for drugstore I hit up Rite Aid because they don't hassle you.

I return cosmetics quite often. If you are unsatisfied with a purchase than that is your right. The store returns the stuff to the company and is reimbursed for it in a lot of cases. That manufacturer's duty is to make a product that you will love. They stand behind them.

Absolutely I return. Especially when a product is promised to do something it doesn't deliver on. I've returned mascara's that do absolutely nothing. If I'm paying $20+ for a mascara, it had better give results.

I don't usually return makeup, but a couple of times I've bought very expensive moisturizers that were guaranteed hypoallergenic - two or three days later, my face was covered in a rash that took a week to go away. So I returned those - if a product cost $75 and claims to not cause reactions, it sure as hell better live up to it!

I never used to return, but I would not. I bought some expensive foundation once that I hated. It made my face feel like a mask, it was awful and the wrong color. I never did and now evey time I pass that (well respected) make up counter I feel disgusted. If I had returned it I would probably still buy things from them. I was younger then, but like I said I'd have NO problem returning something that didn't work for me.

I do. About two weeks ago I bought a powder set at Sephora from stila,&without me doing anything at all to it after about the second time I opened it it was ruined. The powder was bad quality and cracked. So I returned it and got my $30 back. :)

cosmetics are returnable and should be. it's not a crime unlike other things (such as stealing). if don't like something, why keep it? everyday you'll look at it and think of the place you purchased it and get angry for throwing away money. the lighting in retail stores are not the best, so one can truly love a color in the store and get home and it's a whole different story.or it wears well for the 15 minutes that you're there, but that's different from 8 hours of work. it's a gamble and it's a gamble a lot of retailers are willing to take. we're not talking the ole' "buy for a party tonight and return the dress the next day" trick. this is strictly "i wanted this lipstick, but it doesn't look right in daylight on me."

I'd return stuff if it causes allergic reaction or doesn't deliver the claim -- especially if it's expensive or premium/high-end brand because I'm paying premium for not just the product but the service and guarantee as well.

If a company is charging $24 for a lip gloss then I have to love it. If I don't love it after road testing it a day or two then back it goes. The store damages out the product and gets reimbursed by the cosmetic company who have a pretty good idea of what they should expect to eat in the way of returned merchandise. If they weren't still coming out on top in this exchange I assure you that they would change the return policy. That said, I will return it ASAP and not after more than three uses.

I never return stuff to department stores or Sephora (although I would if I needed to) since I can take home samples of products or test them first. I freely return stuff to drugstores since I can't test before I buy.

I recently returned around $200 worth of bobbi brown makeup... sometimes the girls at the counter have no idea what makeup is right for what skin type. She gave me the wrong color for my skin and the product was meant for dry skin so it was very creamy and made me breakout. I know from working retail in beauty supplies that just about every line has a no questions asked return policy and if the makeup is wrong for you why not?!

Well.. an option for what i wanted to vote wasn't up.. so i chose other. but i guess i lean more towards the sure it's okay... but i don't really think that it's always okay. there are some boundaries. there are sooo many makeup products out there that claim to do different things.. and some are worth a try. but if things don't go as plan, i think you should be able to return it without being ashamed. a month ago i bought some expensive foundation and powder, i used it twice. the first time i tried it outside of the store, i wasn't really liking it. to give it the benefit of the doubt, i used it again the second day, and i decided i really didn't like it. so i returned it. i mean, if it were something i just got from target under 10 dollars, i could care less. but i ended up spending $70 on something i ended up not wanting. so i returned it.returning something lightly used is okay, in my opinion.
