Do You Think Price Correlates With Quality?

There are some beauty products I'll shell out good money for—a non-greasy sunscreen, a concealer that blends perfectly, a shampoo that lets me go an extra day without needing to wash my hair. But sometimes, fancy products don't seem to do anything better than cheaper drugstore versions do. What do you think—do you get what you pay for?

drug store and department store makeup is the same stuff. you pay more for department store makeup because of the salesperson and the fancy packaging

i think it makes a difference in some products more than others. i'll generally pay more for skincare than hair or body products.

No. I have found inexpensive items that are worth their weight in gold and expensive items that left me waiting for my promised miracle...

It depends on the product absolutely. For example La Mer is pricier than Murad, but i always prefer second one. I don't trust and don't use very cheap and unknown brands especially for skincare. Murad skincare products are my HG

I agree with everyone who says it depends on the product. For me, expensive mascara is a total waste of money. I don't wear it often enough to use it all before it dries out, so that's, like, $25 down the drain.... On the other hand, I can't do drugstore foundation, powder or concealer because the shade selection is really limited, and it's usually impossible to try those things on in the drugstore. Eyeshadow is usually more apt to stay put if it has more pigment in it, so drugstore brands don't cut it there, either. Soap and shampoo, though, is fine if it's from the drugstore.

I've heard Olay products are really great. However, for my sensitive skin, I splurge on some products that I think work well for me. Most of the time I supplement some expensive products with more expensive products. For example, I still use vaseline on my lips before i go to bed on top of a lip/antioxidant moisture treatment.

I find that, for me, the pricier foundations, eyeshadows, and hair products are worth it. For everything else, I use drugstore brands.

It really depends. Like an expensive shoe is usually better quality than a cheap shoe, but drugstore makeup is usually just as good as expensive makeup.

I have some pricy favorites, but if I could only use one product for the rest of my life, it would probably be Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter body lotion. The most I've ever seen it sell for is $3.50 for a gigantic bottle that lasts me a whole season of twice-daily applications. Going on, it feels OK - about the same as any other lotion. But five minutes later, I feel like I'm glowing with health. I just wish I could put it on my face - my skin is just too oily for that.

i cant speak for all of it but some cheap stuff works just as well. i've bought into packaging & spent more just to go back to something cheap i've used forever.

Yes and no. Some cheaper drugstore brands cut costs by using inferior ingredients or harsh chemicals. However, there are some really good brands out there that are cheap too! For my face, I use mostly Paula's Choice products, which is around the $10-20 range for everything. As for St. Ives which everyone is touting, my dermatologist told me to stay the heck away from it. Those huge walnut granules are way too abrasive for the face. I use Aveeno's sensitive skin version instead.

i mix it up. i use st. ives scrub and neutrogena face washes, but i use clinique lotion and kiehl's lotion and toner. but i use vaseline on my lips every night and vaseline intensive care aloe lotion for my body. but for make up i usually go a bit higher end- i love benefit cosemetics and i use some clinique and mac. i also use salon shampoo and conditioners, but i also steal my brother's pantene from time to time.

Most mainstream beauty products are made in the same factory (Chanel has its Bourjois line, etc.) with similar ingredients. You can get the look for a lot less, by knowing who makes what! I'd love to see an article about manufacturing & branding, and the added price we pay for the brand name...

I know it depends on the product, and you can certainly get quality at the drugstore, but I just...enjoy an expensive product more. They tend to smell better, and have nicer packaging. So if I can afford it, I prefer to go for the higher priced item - just to make me feel good. There are limits, though. I don't care how good it smells or how well it works, I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on something like caviar shampoo.
