Do You Usually Buy Products After a Makeover?

I'm sure most of you have been in this situation: You sidle up to a department-store makeup counter to have a looky-loo at concealer, lip gloss, whatever it may be. Then, the salesperson offers to put the product on you. Before you know it, you're in full-blown makeover mode, getting a brand-new look for yourself. Finally, the question comes: "And what should I ring up for you today?"

If I love the products—or only one of them—I'm likely to purchase something. If I'm not crazy about it, I take a pass. But there have been times when I've felt sheepish for not buying anything, especially if I liked the makeup artist but didn't love the products. What about you?

I use to out of guilt and obligation but now I don't feel intimidated.

The first time I ever bought real makeup (anything other then mascara) was for my wedding. I went to Macys and the makeup counter do my makeup. They told me how to use everything and so I bought everything so I could copy the look.

If I really like the product/s, I'll but it/them. Otherwise it's just a waste of money. I'm not going to buy a product that I won't use. But, usually the reason I get a makeover is because I want to try out a particular product anyway, so if it meets my expectations then I'll definitely be getting it.

Oh... and to answer the question...I usually try to make an appointment [my usual girl is very well booked]. And I also purchase a number of items from her.Oh... and another tip. If you have a regular cosmetics advisor, you can have her get items at other counters as well. So, if she's working at MAC, for example, and you usually wear a Lancome foundation and a Chanel fragrance... she can go pick up those items for you and she will get the commission.

Those poor beauty advisors [with the exception of Mac] are pressured to hit sales goals every day. Their pay is dismal to begin with and the commission is miniscule. I would never ask a BA to put something on me if I didn't intend to buy it [or something!].And by the way, they are NOT bored behind the counter. If they are a worthwhile employee... they have tons of things to do besides putting makeup on someone who just wants a free makeover.

While I only buy something if I'm wild about it - odds are good that I'll find something to buy since I took up their time. And typically, I've already steered them in the direction of something I was interested in.

i don't let them touch me, first of all i'm great with make-up and second of all i'm already wearing one :) so there's no space to try something new. and i don't like this kind of attention.

If it's a 'foundation' makeover I'll ask for a to go sample to try at home. I go to Mac alot and the artists there know me. I like to buy a lot when they do my makeup. I spend a lot in Sephora too so I guess overall yes. I guess I'll pretty much buy after a makeover.

Most of the places I've gotten makeovers at (Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman's) require you to buy their makeup as a condition of getting the makeover.

I have if I really liked the product...I'm not big on having people do my makeup though. Especially in the middle of a department store. All set!

I've had makeovers I HATE or makeovers where I already own the same or similar products. I usually buy something, but sometimes it's just a new brush or a lip gloss.

i don't to makeovers very often, but when i do, i'll usually buy something, but only if i like it. if the makeover is done and i don't like it, i'll have them change it to something that i do like.

Sometimes, but it's usually only one or two products, then I'll pick up similar products somewhere else for less.

i hardly ever let the salespeople touch my face but when i do, i usually buy 1 or 2 things. i usually know what i want when i get there anyway.

I always feel bad if I don't buy something but I have so many half used bottles of everything under the sun that I now only make thought out purchases. No more people pleasing for me! lol

Oh, and if I really like something, I'll go back for it and try to make sure to buy it from the person who helped me before!

If I've made an appointment (exceedingly rare!) I'll be sure to buy something. If it's just a walk-by deal, I usually mention in the beginning that I'm not planning to buy that day or that I want to try the product to see how it wears during the course of the day before I purchase it.

Yeah I have to agree with the couple of comments. I won`t buy something unless I like it, Like make-up. I have never had a make-up makeover done before. And with my face anyway I have to be careful with what I put on it anyway. The wrong thing could over dry my face and make it break out. So I don`t wear make-up, Maybe once in a blue moon. Sometimes not even that.

I'm very picky about what I spend my hard earned money on. Unless it wow's me I'm not buying, but always be appreciative to the associate. (Unless they make you look like a clown.)
