Today Drybar is doing something it hasn't done since it opened: the express hair salon megachain is adding a new blowout style to its menu. This is major news for Drybar fans — and we know there are plenty of them out there, since every time we go to book an appointment, there are very few spots (darn you, type-A folks!). The new blowout style will be cleverly dubbed The Dirty Martini, and as its name suggests, the 'do is meant to look like perfectly imperfect slept-in waves (think Alexa Chung or Blake Lively as the celebrity hair inspiration).

"Messy, tousled 'undone' hair has become such a requested look (and one of my personal favorites!), so I was anxious to incorporate this style into our lineup!" said Drybar founder Alli Webb. "There is definitely a time for a perfectly polished blowout, but I think we all have a little Dirty Martini in us too!"

Weeks before the Dirty Martini blowout launched, I tested out the look and scored exclusive tips on how you can re-create it at home. The good news? It's pretty easy for anyone with some hot tools experience to try. So grab your curling iron and some texturizing spray, and keep reading! Photo: Lauren Levinson

Step 1

Begin by prepping just-washed hair with a heat-protectant cream and then spritz on Drybar Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray ($25), a formula that gives you beachy texture. Mist it from your roots down and in between layers, not just on top. Rake it through with your hands and scrunch.

Step 2

First, rough-dry your hair to take some of the moisture out — you want to keep a bit of your natural texture. Sea salt spray (see above) also adds extra texture if your hair is fine. Start smoothing out strands with a big round brush and blow dryer. Always work on the front first, especially if your hair is naturally curly (like mine!). "Cowlicks and widow's peaks get in the way," explains Drybar stylist Alice Ketchesom. "So you want to hit that at the start."

Use the round brush to create a loose wave in the midshaft of the hair. "You want an unstructured wave," adds Ketchesom. "It's not a spiral curl. You just want body with a little flip and movement at the ends." You can see the finished blowout here. Photo: Lauren Levinson

Step 3

To get loose, second-day curls, wrap 1.5-inch sections of hair around a 1.75-inch iron, such as Drybar's The 3-Day Bender ($125). Curl away from your face, starting from the front and moving back, while holding the iron vertically. Now this is the key step! Right after each individual curl is made and hot, pull it straight down from the ends. Twist it between your fingers and lightly yank it to stretch and loosen the coil. Essentially, this makes it drop sooner.

Once your head is very loosely curled, go in and add more texture using Drybar's new Triple Sec 3-in-1 Spray ($25). This mist is volumizing, texturizing, and has dry-shampoo properties. It also smells like sweet perfume (even my Uber driver complimented my scent).

"Don't apply it like a traditional hairspray with one big mist," warns Ketchesom. Instead, do little bursts throughout in layers, roots, and midsection, scrunching and massaging it in. Shake and rake with your fingers. And if you need more polish around your face, add extra curls here or there with the iron.

Ketchesom has a savvy tip for preserving your blowout. "Sleep in two Princess Leia buns — so it doesn't look like you literally slept on it." To do this, split hair in half from the part line down, twist each section away from your face, and pin the sections above each ear. "In the morning, drop it, shake it, apply more Triple Sec, and you're good to go!" she enthuses.
