3 Easy Face-Mask Recipes You Can Make at Home With Ingredients in Your Kitchen

Apr 3 2020 - 9:20am

There's something so satisfying about mixing and making your own beauty remedies. From body scrubs and face masks [1] to DIY [2] lip scrubs, there's an added sense of accomplishment when you get to craft products using items you already have [3] in your kitchen — not to mention, it's budget-friendly.

You can use store-bought face masks to detox, brighten, and exfoliate, or you can use grocery items in your pantry to achieve the same skin goals. Mimi Luzon [4], a celebrity aesthetician who has worked with stars like Naomi Campbell [5], Kaia Gerber, and the Hadid sisters, swears by homemade face masks.

"I currently do a different face mask every day," Luzom said. "Following Eastern skin-care practices, it's extremely beneficial for our skin to use a face mask with a different function every day; it could be firming, luminizing, moisturizing, or detoxifying. Of course, you can use any mask [6] you have in the house every other day, or you can make your own treatments at home."

Ahead, Luzon shared three of her favorite at-home face masks that you can make with simple ingredients.

Homemade Turmeric Mask

Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It also has great skin-care benefits. "It's an excellent mask for glowing and softening of the skin," Luzon said.

Ingredients:

Instructions:
Mix all four ingredients together to create an ointment, and leave it on the skin for 20 minutes. When the time is up, rinse it off with water.

Homemade Oatmeal Mask

Because of its texture, oatmeal makes a great natural exfoliator. "This mask reduces inflammation and works as an enzyme exfoliator," Luzon said. "If you have sensitive skin, you can omit the lemon."

Ingredients:

Instructions:
Boil 2 tablespoons oatmeal to make your exfoliator, and add a squeeze of lemon. After it cools down, apply it to your skin, leave it on for 15 minutes, and rinse it off with water.

Homemade Green-Tea Face Mask

Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that are good for your skin and body. "This is an excellent toxin cleanser," Luzon said. "It enhances skin tone and gives skin an instant glow."

Ingredients:

Instructions:
Mix together all the ingredients to create an ointment. "Apply to the skin for 20 minutes, massage into the skin, and rinse with water," Luzon said.
