Have You Ever Kept a Lock of Someone's Hair?

This week, someone paid $15,000 dollars for a clump of Elvis Presley's hair. Not for a jacket, belt, or even a pair of sunglasses — for his hair. This seems a little ridiculous to me, and not just because of the price. I understand that many people keep locks of their children's hair, and I can understand keeping a lock from a loved one, but what about this situation, where the person who's getting the hair may well simply be a stranger? And how do you keep something like that: frame it and mount it on a wall? What do you think? Have you ever kept a lock of someone's hair, or is this just creepy?

hair doesn't hold DNA. it's the root that holds it, that why they always yank it out of the suspect's head on CSI or get it from the brush whatever.

haha! Okay.. here's my story. Judge me all you want. I worked at Hotel Zaza in Dallas when it first opened as a VIP personal assistant. Basically I was the bitch for anyone who stayed in the suites. Well Britney stayed with us for a week during her "Slave" days (when she was amazingly hot) and I was with her for about 11 hours a day for over a week. It was the most fun I ever had the whole time I worked there. She was SO kind and very sweet. Well we were unable to take pictures with celebs or we would get fired (lame) so as she was leaving to go get her hair done, she gave me a piece of her weave. haha. I still have it in the Britney cd case along with the ticket stub of the front row seat she gave me. It's just a memory thing..

Just for my baby, since their hair almost always changes color when they are older. It used to be romantic for a man to keep a lock of hair from the woman he loves. I believe that was Victorian..?

(got cut off) i know i have one of these bags left. i also kept one of my ex boyfriend's dreadlocks when i cut them off, it had a nice little bead on it keeping it together. still have it.

this is gonna sound gross but when i was little, i'd keep all of my little doggy's hair in a ziploc when we would cut her hair >.< hahaha i don't know where they are now, im sure there is atleast one bag of this saved. and when i cut my ex boyfriend's dreads off, i kept one of them that had a bead on it. still have it. yep, i'm a sentimental packrat.

I kept a lock of my horse's hair before I sold him. I braided it and have it in a keepsake box with photos of him. Anything else would just disgust me.

I have a lock from my sons' first haircut and my mom gave me mine from when I was a baby but otherwise, yes, gross even if it does have their DNA.

Doesn't hair hold DNA? So in that case, the person can use the hair for scientific research, and maybe even cloning Elvis. You can't do that with just a leather jacket. :rotfl:

My family is close with a family that saves their hair whenever they cut it and make pillows out of it. Apparently it's a Dominican custom that's supposed to bring good luck.

i understand keeping a lock from your child's first haircut in a baby book but that's about the only circumstance where i could find this normal! otherwise it's creepy and gross.

I haven't but I don't think it's weird if you keep a lock from your child's first haircut or something like that. I've never understood keeping someone's hair for romantic reasons
