"No Family History" Examines Toxins in Cosmetics

Breast Cancer Awareness month is still a few months away, but combating the disease shouldn't be relegated to October alone. If you have a moment, you may want to check out the trailer for No Family History. The documentary (and accompanying book) explores the increase in breast cancer rates, emphasizing prevention over corporate think-pink campaigns. Like many environmental activists, filmmaker Sabrina McCormick believes that the chemicals we're surrounded by — including those in our cosmetics — are carcinogenic. Seems like these days everything causes cancer. Everything in moderation.

i only use chemical-free, preservative-free, organic makeup and beauty products. plus, i only use natural and non-toxic cleaners for the house like vinegar, borax, baking soda, and tea tree.

People have had cancer for a long time. Even before our century... Anyone with it would want a reason, an explaination, but sometimes it's a mystery why one person gets cancer or any other disease and another does not.

I do worry, but than what does an average consumer to do? It takes a lot of work to find reliable sources which can point out the carcinogenic ingredients, some sites say sodium laurel sulfate, mineral oil etc are carcinogenic, while others say its not true. Which one do we believe? how do we choose safe products? FDA should make such information easily available for people.
