Gisele Bündchen Clarifies Her Sunscreen Is "Poison" Statement

By now, you've likely heard that Gisele Bündchen has taken a lot of flak after recently making an antisunscreen comment, saying, "I cannot put this poison on my skin . . . I do not use anything synthetic." As you can imagine, her words sparked an uproar within the medical community, with Dolival Loao of Brazil's National Cancer Institute noting that sunscreen is beneficial for its ability to prevent cancer. He said, "This is not any poison, when a public person makes a statement like this, it creates confusion."

And now, Gisele has clarified the controversial statement through her publicist, Amber Clapp. Amber tells StyleList, "Gisele would never say not to use sunscreen because she has had family members who have had skin cancer. She simply stated that her all-natural skin-care [Sejaa] line does not have SPF because there is not an all natural SPF available." Instead, Gisele wears sun protection free of PABA, retinyl palmitate, parabens, and oxybenzone, and explained on her blog, "I do use sunblock but also I try my best not to be exposed to the sun when it is too strong."

It's a shame that Gisele has too much to lose by telling the truth. She is right! Commercial sunblock is poison. You don't have to believe... just pick a couple of ingredients from your sunblock's label (octyl methoxycinnamate, for example) and go do a little research. You will find out that it contains ingredients that are extremely dangerous, not to mention potentially life threatening.

Good Grief! No need to bash the poor woman just because she has an opinion and it differs from the "norm". If you are relying on this type of information when making important decisions, you have some maturing to do.

I agree, Natalie Love. It's her opinion and while she may be backpedaling a little bit, it's good to see her so passionate about a subject, even if some don't agree with her statements.

To be honest, I think she's just stating her opinion. If she doesn't use sunscreen with SPF, and someone asked her, I think she is free to say she doesn't, and her reasoning behind it. Just because she's famous she has to tell people what doctors want them to hear? Celebrities aren't responsible for personal choices people make. People are.

Actually the people who disagree with her are ignorant because if they did their research they would realize that sunscreen causes cancer just as much as the sun! "Sunblock" blocks the sun which includes vitamin D production. Which causes cancer! If I ever need sunscreen, I use organic natural Zinc sunscreen. Look up oxybenzone! It is toxic.

Bah come on. It's not like she's a super important doctor telling people what to do, she just mentioned her opinion. And I actually think she does have a point - good to wear sunscreen every day, but check the ingredients of what's in your SPF first..

LOL! Amazing, she says something stupid (again), and of course, she gets to blame it on the language barrier. She has an amazing PR team -- she needs to because she keeps shoving her foot right in her mouth, over and over again. If she just shut her mouth and model, she wouldn't need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on PR.
