OK, we admit the only reason we've followed the entire Lord of the Rings saga is because of Orlando Bloom. Allure talked to Legolas about his hair makeover for the new movie. Yes, we're jealous, too!
Gee, their hair looks perfect, even as they slay a thousand orcs. In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Evangeline Lilly and Orlando Bloom leap and bound while battling a legion of foes, but their lustrous tresses always manage to look just so. We caught up with the action heartthrobs at a screening hosted by the Cinema Society and Moncler to discover the secrets of their (borrowed) Elvish hair.
Orlando Bloom: "I was actually learning lines from Romeo and Juliet while I was doing hair and makeup, likely infuriating my makeup artist. I did indeed go blond again. But it's a wig — the same wig, in fact. They kept it from The Lord of the Rings. It was actually in pretty good shape. It's one of those funny things, because I love the wig, love how it works. I love that I get to be a blond!"
Evangeline Lilly: "The hair in the film is elegant, beautiful and structured, clean, simple, strong, feminine. I got so tired of beach hair after ten years working on Lost. Elves are meant to be perfect beings. But, believe it or not, it was only two hours of hair and makeup, which is really standard for a film. For the wig, it took half an hour to wrap my hair, and then half an hour to put it on. The ears were about half an hour. I often play with my ears — it's a weird tick — so [the makeup artist] would just sit there and play with my ears for half an hour, so that was perfect. Orcs, meanwhile, were five hours in and two hours out, while at the end of the day, I was finished in 15 minutes."
