Have You Ever Had a Bad Experience With a Piercing?

There are lots of different types of piercings, and with them comes lots of room for error. From infections surrounding the site to jewelry that becomes "ingrown" around the piercing, the fact of the matter is that things can go wrong. For instance, last year, I decided a third earring in my left ear would look really cute, but about two months later, the little stud had to be removed due to a raging earlobe infection. Not fun. So tell me all about any disasters you've had. Whether the actual piercing was more than just a painful experience or an earring accidentally tore out because it got caught on your sweater (ouch!), we're curious to hear your stories.

I recemty got a ear pircing on my cartilige and i got really infected my ear was as swollen as a balloon and it was so painful the slightless touch could casue me to cry. it was quite difficult to remove the earing but i just got it out today.

I have 10 ear piercings (I had others but took them out), and an eyebrow piercing. Last week on my 18th birthday I decided to go get my nose pierced, and my monroe pierced,,, HUGE mistake!!! 4 days later the skin over the back of my monroe had started to grow over the stopping piece and the round stud part had started sinking in the skin. It was super tender to the touch and just my boyfriend breathing on it was almost enough to make me cry. It was a sunday so all clinics around my boyfriends house were closed :( , me and my boyfriend tried to take it out our selves . We numbed it my placing aspirin between my (very swollen) lipand gum. we used ice and pliers and it just wouldnt budge :( I went to the Dr on tuesday and she gave me antibiotics for the swelling and infection. she told me to come back next wednesday and if its not heeled i will have to get it surgically removed. :(. im sooo scared. it's now thursday ad m ylip is uber swollen and its tender to the touch and im just in ALOT of pain. :( :( :( :( AND THE SKIN IS STILL HEALED OVER IT!!!

Pissed off that the supposedly professional screwed up and peirce too close to my daughters face. A bit off the marked dot careless lady!! They said to take it out and wait 24 hours and theyd redo it for free. Wow I can't believe they didn't offer to refund me my money! What about the additional pain and time we'll suffer because of this professionals mistake at the mall?

Nope, I've had my belly button, 2 lobe piercings on each ear, and a cartilage piercing. The cartilage I took out just because I decided it wasn't cute anymore. I'm a super girly girl. I might get a Miley-esque stud in my nose soon though. I trust the guys who do it so I doubt anything will happen.xx

Other than being slightly sensitive to "cheap" earrings, not really any problems. I love my piercings (I have two in each lobe, one in the right cartilage), but then again, I enjoy piercings in general.

I was six days old when I got my ears pierced so I don't have any harrowing ear infection stories. I do have a nickel allergy and I can't wear a number of costume jewelry. No biggie I like gold anyways.

I've gotten all four of my piercings at claire's (2 in left lobe, 1 in right lobe and one in upper right cartilage). The first two (lobes) were when I was 9, the third one was when I was 11 (left lobe), and the last one (right cartilage) was a couple months ago, my 18th birthday present to myself! They've used the earrings guns every time and I've never had a problem with any of my piercings. When I got my first two done, the lady actually marked where the earring holes would be with a pen, and then had my mom double and triple check to make sure that they would be straight. The same thing happened for my other piercings. I used their antiseptic (comes with piercings) and I've never had an infection or any other problem. In fact, I got my wisdom teeth out the week after I got the cartilage, so I didn't do antiseptic for a while and still no infection. So, maybe the people at the Claire's I go to are really well trained or something? Never had a problem with them, and if I decide to get a second cartilage, I am definitely going to them to have it done.

I've had piercings in my earlobes ever since I was a baby, which were fine, but sensitive to non-precious metals. When I was in high school I decided I wanted piercings in my cartilage. After a few friends had theirs done at Claire's with a gun, I decided to go for it. Two surgeries later - lesson learned -NEVER get your cartilage pierced by a gun. In college a piercing and tattoo place did a presentation in one of my classes and said the guns pierce with a blunt stud and it only goes through b/c of the sheer force, ripping the cartilage. You should get it done at a piercing place that uses a very sharp needle to pierce. One of my cartilage piercings, b/c it had scar tissue from the blunt stud that punched it’s way through, formed a keloid - I had a HUGE bump on the back of my ear, the size of an eraser on a pencil, that I had to have surgically removed and steroids shot into it post surgery to try to prevent scar tissue from building up again. Two years after surgery, it returned even bigger, and I had to be put under and have surgery done by a plastic surgeon to finally get rid of the huge bump AND get a skin graft over it(I was getting married so I really wanted to have it done right). Learn from my mistake - please don't let anybody with a piercing gun puncture your cartilage!! (Some of you may say it’s b/c I’m prone to keloids – but I also have a tattoo which is a nono for those prone to keloids and it is fine and not raised)

I had a bad reaction to my ears being pierced when i was 5 or 6, they got infected so i took them out but got them re-pierced a yr later and they are fine. I have my cartilage (twice) and nose pierced now and used to have my eyebrow, belly, and tongue (2x) done with no issues so I assume the first place wasn't sanitary. I think going to Claire's is fine for ear piercing (where i got mine done) but as for others def go to a pro and do not attempt to pierce yourself EVER!! because thats just asking for an infection regardless if someone you know done it without probs.

Yup...! i pierced the tiny fold on teh upper part of my ear whn i ws in college...on the 5th day while sleeping my hand hit on it and tore it a lil bit..ouch!!! can feel the pain now!!! I took out the earring and on advise of my mother bathe it every day wth warm salt water..it healed within a week wthout any scars

Of course from my vantage point I couldn't see or feel it being done & my mom's view was blocked because she stood in front of me. It was only after I took out the "setting" hoops I'd chosen to set the holes.-The piercing to my left ear was alright... but the one to my right ear was crooked! Every time I went to put to push the post through, I had to search for the back hole. It was always getting infected too... eventually, I stopped putting earrings in so the holes would close up & I couple get them redone a few years later.-Still haven't done it... scared, I guess. Not many clip-on earrings to choose from, but I do find some great ones from time to time.

OMG. I got a monroe piercing and it never healed (for like 2 months) then I quit my job for a real office job, so I switched the stud out for something less noticeable. Went to sleep, woke up the next morning to clean it... the skin in my mouth had grown over the back plate of the stud. PERMENANT PIERCING! My sister is a nurse so she ganked some scalpels from work and tried to cut it out... 2 hours later, no luck. She came at me with some pliers and told me to hold still and she YANKED IT OUT OF MY FACE! So now I have a scar where beauty mark piercing used to be. I guess it all worked out in the end.

I got my cartilage pierced about 11 years ago, and had no issues. However, several years later I decided to get a second piercing in the cartilage, and I went to a place where they used a gun. Once the stud went through my ear, the gun jammed, so when the woman went to pull it away from my ear, I went with it! It actually didn't bother me (I was numb from the piercing), but my friend who had never gotten a piercing and was waiting in line was a little freaked out. They got me unstuck, changed to a different gun, and hers went fine.

This is crazy that you posted this today cause I had the worst Piercing experience this morning. Ive had two nose rings for a year with no problem. Than six days ago I got my Monroe pierced and this Morning I woke up and my Monroe and whole left side of my mouth was crazy swollen. I put ice on it, than around 8am I fell asleep again and I woke up around 11 and the top diamond part of the earing went down and got stuck inside my skin. I went to the emergency room they numbed it and had to cut the top inside of my lip open to get the eating out. They prescribed me to antibiotics i have to take four times a day for the next week,and my lip is still swollen right now. Never getting anything else pierced again!

i've had my ears pierced three times because of infections from those cheapy earrings most salons sell. :/ but, the third time worked out because it's been years and no problems!

I got my ears pierced when I was very young, a baby, and as I grew the piercings didn't and they're way too high on my lobs to be used... they were also done with a piercing gun and left keloid scars on both my ears (both very small but people ask what's on my ears).I gauged my ears and had them become infected and balloon up and it was gross. I'm allergic to certain types of metal so I have to be careful or else I'll swell or in cases when I was little, scab/bleed. It's not too bad, got two cartilage piercings two gauged ears(two extra holes I don't use) my tongue and nose and I'm fine for another piercing. I will say though, STAY AWAY FROM PIERCING GUNS. They're unsafe and the girls as Claire's probably don't know what they're doing.

I got a lip piercing. Oops.I fainted right after the ring was put in, that was no good. I thought I was okay for a couple weeks afterward, until my lymph nodes swelled way up. So I went to the doctor and got the piercing taken out...which cleared up the problem, but also left me without a cool piercing. Slight bummer.

I had a second set of piercings in my earlobes. Disater. Crooked holes. Infections. I finally let them close up... only one side did and the other didn't. I still have problems with the one that didn't till this day.
