How Far Do You Go When Grooming Your Pets?

Yesterday we saw pictures of Kelly Osbourne and her dog dressed in similar sweatshirts. Today I came across a product called Pawlish by OPI. These are specially formulated nail lacquers for dogs that come in six colors ($10.95 each).

They are a one-coat, quick drying formula that seem easy enough to use, but the instructions say, "Plan to apply when your pet is relaxed and happy". Hmm. I'm sure your doggie will look chic and all, but doesn't this strike you as a little bit cruel? You tell me, when it comes to grooming your pets, what little extras do you think are reasonable?

You guys need to get w/ the times! Dog nail polish has been around for at least two decades and little old ladies used to dye their poodles to match their blue or purple rinse in their hair. You don't have to agree w/ it, but it's not cruel. Watch some episodes of Animal Cops sometime. Neglecting a dog that needs regular grooming is clear. (I recall a house full of filthy, matted Wire Fox Terriers and a Lhasa Apso that was actually growing moss in his coat.) Groomers see dogs that are so matted they have sores on their skin all the time. There is actual cruelty out there and you guys are whining about nail polish!?!

The WORKS! My dog loves to be pampered & she seems to act differently after she's had her nails done & ribbons put into her hair! She won't even get off the sidewalk into the grass after she's had a pedicure!

I work in an animal hospital where we give free baths to dogs that stay with us for several days. We wash them, brush them, blow dry their hair, and use doggy perfume to make them smell super clean. The doggies don't mind and the owners love it. Most dogs are nervous at first but relax because they like getting attention. Grooming is also a way of showing dominance. If I tell the dog it has to sit while I brush it, I'm reminding it who is in charge.

This is cute but I believe it's totally unnecessary for pets.A weekly bath, brushing of teeth and nail trim is good enough for my pits.

I think it's awful!!!how can people be so loathsome? how can they do something like this to their animals??? it's awful!! they have to be in jail right now!!! :@I think people are going too far with this f***ing fashion!!! just because those dumb celebrities dress up their doggies, other people are doing the same!!! :@ it's awful!!! poor doggies.. :(

My dogs get baths that include shampoo and conditioner, and occasionally I'll use the hairdryer on them. That's about all they can handle, so I don't think OPI's doggy nail polish is something I'd try.

I got my dog the dog shampoo and conditioner from Kiehls, but that's as far as I'm going with that! :)

A bath twice a year and nail trim every 6 weeks. That's it! Maya is a low maintenance girl!!!

It's not cruel at all. It's not causing them pain, it's not bad for them. It would only be cruel if your dog was freaking out about it but you insisted on doing it anyways. The nail polish itself is fine.I think it looks dumb, frankly, but if your dog doesn't mind, go for it.I'm more excited for doggy-hair dyes. I saw a pekingese with a pink mo hawk the other day...
