Summer is just around the corner, and that means it's time to put your best face forward. The warmer months are the perfect time to play up glowing, dewy skin — so experiment with it! You can achieve it in just a few easy steps:
Step One: Moisturizer
Moisturizing is the most important step in anyone's routine. Moisturizer adds much-needed hydration to the skin, so apply your favorite moisturizer and move on to the next step.
Step Two: Primer
Choose a primer with a luminous finish. Try MAC Strobe Cream ($32) or L'Oréal Magic Lumi Primer ($13). This will give your skin a lit-from-within look and will even shine through underneath your foundation.
Step Three: Foundation
Picking the right foundation is a really important step when trying to achieve that fresh-faced look. Nars Sheer Glow ($45) has a very thin consistency, so it won't give you that masklike effect, only a gorgeous, natural sheen to the skin. An affordable alternative would be the L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi foundation ($12). If you have dry skin, go for a moisturizing foundation instead.
Step Four: Powder
If you have oily skin, be sure to set the oily areas of your face (typically the t-zone) with a translucent powder. This will keep your makeup in those areas lasting much longer, as well as take away any excess shine. If you have dry skin, then you will want to skip this step.
Step Five: Blush
Choose a cream blush instead of powder. It will give you a little bit of extra hydration, as well as melt into your skin instead of just lying on top. Try a Makeup Forever HD Cream Blush ($26). They come in a huge assortment of colors that will complement any skin tone.
Step Six: Highlighter
Apply your favorite highlighter to your cheeks, nose, and top lip. These are the places that the sun would naturally hit. The L'Oréal Magic Lumi Highlighter pen ($13) gives the skin a nice luminous appearance without going overboard. You could even use a little bit of your primer that you applied earlier instead.
After all of these steps, your skin should have a healthy, radiant glow. Dewy skin gives you a more youthful appearance and keeps your face looking dimensional instead of flat. Try it out for yourself — I know you'll love it!
