Its important to wash brushes used for liquids every day. I'd say wash powder brushes like once every few days. If you dont have brush cleanser use a mild baby shampoo. Depending if your brushes are made with real hair or synthetic make sure you dont use hand soap. Hand soap will dry out the natural hair brushes and cause the bristles to break and fall out. synthetic brushes it doesnt matter as much but on the safe side i'd say just use brush cleanser or baby shampoo.
For a long time, I was soooo bad about cleaning. Now, I try and do it regularly, because otherwise, you are not getting the quality application out of the brushes or the make up.
For my own personal brushes it's usually every few weeks, but I'm also a makeup artist (in training currently) so I wash my professional brushes every week with shampoo and conditioner, and after each use with brush cleaner or alcohol.
once a week with MAC brush cleaner. but foundation brush, I clean it every few days.
ummm, every day isn't an option? I agree, brush cleaner made my brush feel hard/stiff, but every morning when I'm done applying my makeup, I use warm water and soap. I leave them hanging over the counter ledge to dry and they're soft and new for the next day!
Guilty as charged. I need to clean mine more often. :(
I almost never wash them. I really should do it though.
I always forget, but I love the feeling of a freshly shampooed and conditioned brush. It's so silky clean.
I love the way they feel after a good cleaning. Like new.
I put them on the delicate cycle of my washing machine with my hair brushes.
I wash them at least once a week even if i never used it, otherwise, more than that
i know we should...BUT IM JUST SO LAZY :-/

My actual makeup (foundation) brush is replaced every time I get new makeup. However, I have been bad on cleaning my eye and blush brush!
Every couple of weeks I do a serious cleaning of them, with the Sephora Brush Cleaning Shampoo and my regular hair conditioner, but I "clean" my eyeshadow brushes everyday with Smashboxes quick brush cleaner to remove the color from the hairs so that the next day when I use them, there isn't any accidental color mixing :)
you have just reminded me to wash my brushes this weekend before i go for my vacay!! i use the MAC brush cleaner it is the best! Maybe you should do a feature of brush cleaners. i normally clean my bushes at night so they have time to dry and i can use the next day.
Also, I really prefer the DIY method when it comes to brush cleaning, rather than the cleansers you buy at the store. If you do it in a clean dry place, they should dry out within a day. In the meantime, I use my crappier backup brushes. :)

I find it hard to get a whole day when I don't need them so they can dry out! I have a few follow up questions... 1. what is the best way to wash them? I have the clinque spray for brushes and I'm not really a huge fan. I like my brushes clean but they never quite feel the same after they've been cleaned a few times! 2. how long should you keep a brush before you need to replace it? Apparently, I think about this a lot. :)
