How Often Do You Get Highlights?

A few years ago when I got regular highlights, (which slowly but surely transformed me into a blonde), I'd go every four to five weeks to keep the roots from showing. This way my hair always looked, fresh and naturally sun-kissed. It became quite a costly and time-consuming commitment, but I really loved the way it looked. Most of you told me that you get haircuts every few months, but how often do you get highlights?

i get them every 4-8 weeks. Im 16 & i pay for them myself now & man they rt expensive, & i have dark brown-soft black hair & the carmel doesnt look good & now im almost blonde bc of it & i looks crappy w/my dark eyebrows & my hair is fried. So next month im going back to my natural color.

I get my base color retouched every 6 weeks because my natural color is black & the roots are very obvious. But highlight I only do every 3 months, because the cost of highlight, base, & toner in one visit is just to much. ** The root touch-ups make the hair look good ... without the high cost**

I get my hair retouched every 4-8 weeks cause I have such noticeable chunks, they have to be touched up :)

never - I am a strawberry blonde so if I want highlights I just go out in the sun for a little while.

I really don't care for highlights. They tend to look fake, even when they're the more "natural" looking ones. thankfully for me, my hair takes on natural highlights so I don't have have to worry about it.

When I had them I used to rehighlight them every few months but now dyed it all one colour(red) which is sooo in now too ;-)

I think highlights are tacky and rarely do they turn out chic.

I used to get highlights every Spring/Summer, but I think my hair actually looks healthier without them. So, I just let the sun do it's work to give me some natural lightness. Plus, it's cheaper..haha

I have blond hair but I still like to get highlights about every 8 weeks. Goes great with curly hair.

I had highlights only once before and I HATED them. I had gross striped on my head. So I refused for a long time. Then my friends mom convinced me to let her try some on me. I just got it a couple weeks ago and I love it. It's not obvious, it's just pretty and shiny. And my hair is curly so it looks neat and blends well.

I accidentally dyed my hair a shade too dark about a month ago, and instead of stripping the color, my stylist suggested highlights instead to brighten it up a bit. They look great....and I think I will try to keep them up, maybe even lighten my hair overall. I have very dark brown hair, which I love, but the stylist was like, "you know you'd look great with blonde hair too, right?" even though she said she also prefers dark hair. I think I am interested enough to give it a try to do something new. I'm guessing it's going to take 6 months of getting highlights every 4 weeks to get it there, does anyone know? Right now I have dark brown hair with lighter brown highlights...

I home dye my hair pretty much whenever the mood strikes me. If I do highlights, I only do them in the long part of my hair which is my bangs.

I used to just get highlights. Now I am just blonde. Every 3 mos or so, I get a few highlights thrown in or lowlights just so it isn't one solid color.

Well I get mine done every few months but I may have to get them done more often as I have started to notice a few grey hairs around my hairline... eek!! :)

i've got red highlights on medium brown hair, and it used to be every 3-4 months, but i'm broke and on month 7 now...

I have highlighted in the past and it does such a number on my hair I just don't do it anymore. My hair gets so damaged. I am naturally a medium to dark brunette so I was getting a few caramel highlights and although it looked nice for about a month...my hair just doesn't like them. So, I stopped! I stick with a nice rich chocolate brown now.

I had them a couple of years ago, but I have chocolatety brown hair, then "wore out" and looked brassy. It took a year and a half to grow out.
