How To Treat Acne Scars

Dealing With Acne Scars Made Easier

YouTube star and beauty guru Michelle Phan is passionate about making women feel and look their best, and she always has a trick or two up her sleeve. This week, Michelle helps us with tips for reducing acne scars:

Hi everyone,
Acne scars are more than just difficult to cover up; they can be very personal for many people. If you struggle with the appearance of acne scars, you are not alone! Acne scars are just as common as they are tricky. Since I know this is something a lot that of you are dealing with and have questions on, I wanted to share my recommendations.

Will Pam help dry your nails faster?

Unfortunately, we've yet to discover a magical, one-size-fits-all treatment for acne scars, so keep in mind that the effectiveness of each of these will depend on the severity of your scars and your individual skin needs. See the best fixes below.

Mederma Cream
Mederma Cream is probably my number one recommendation for any type of scar. It helps to soften hardened scar tissue as well as improve the overall appearance of scars. This stuff works very, very well. (They also have coupons up on their site!)

Silicone sheets
Silicone sheets like Cica Care are also great tools for scar reduction. They work to soften, flatten and fade visible scars. They use these sheets on burn victims.

Light Chemical Peel
Another thing you can do is talk to your dermatologist about trying a light chemical peel, which essentially removes dead surface skin to reveal a newer, less-tarnished layer of skin. Chemical peels can be very successful at removing unwanted scars, but are also a much more serious undertaking.

Go to the dermatologist!
Before and/or after you try any of this, I recommend making a visit to the dermatologist. Even if you never go, I would consider this a situation that merits a visit. They can help point you in the right direction and put together a plan that custom fits your skin's needs.

Also, be sure to apply some sort of SPF daily. This will reduce your skin's exposure to harmful rays that can darken and worsen existing scars.

I really hope these tips help! Do you have any suggestions to help with acne scars? Share them in the comments below.
