How to Update a French Manicure

At New York Fashion Week, if the nails weren't nude, they were a modern, chic version of the classic French manicure. We especially love the monochromatic look Deborah Lippman created for the Badgley Mischka show. And it's really easy to do it at home. Many manicures in New York actually layer or mix different almost black shades to create a unique color. We're going to include that element into our Badgley Mischka inspired manicure by missing a deep purple over shimmery olive color which will make you look that iridescent. Paint one base coat with a lighter shimmery shade first, but don't let it dry. The key to layering is actually combining the polishes while they're still wet so they mix together. Also, if you're using two excessively dark shade, take the lighter of the two for the base coat. While the base coat is wet, start painting over it with a darker color. just going to mix the shades together and make it to appear almost black instead of a lighter shade. Let it dry completely and you'll notice the polish actually looks iridescent. The next step it to apply a metallic color to the ends of your nails. I'm gonna use this precision nailbrush, because I'm gonna freehand the tip like Deborah did. But, if you have shaky hands, I recommend using these French manicure strips. All you do is apply it to the nails, paint and then peel it of and you'll have a perfect straight line. Lastly, always protect your work with a top coat to prevent chipping.
