How to Wear a White Eye Shadow 2010-01-08 13:00:00

Pair Your Red Lipstick With a Winter-White Shadow

9

By now, you've probably heard me sing the praises of wearing a sexy red lipstick, from how to chose a shade to creating a trendy version of this old-Hollywood look. At a Las Vegas event last night, Whitney Port showed off her own interpretation of a crimson-toned lip, complementing her lacy white dress with both deep- and light-toned makeup choices. Typically, we're used to seeing white shadows used under the brow to lift or along the inner Vs to create an eye-awakening effect, but not in this case, as Whitney's icy white shadow on the lids lends a beautiful contrast between the darkness of her black winged-out liner and matte red lips. To get your white on, look for shades in pearl, off-white, white-gold, vanilla, opal, or snow. Find your inspiration below:

Wow, she looks a bit like Kate Winslet here! I really like the contrast, it's a nice classy look when paired with nice clothing and a formal event.

I used to use a Rimmel single shadow called "Moonstone" with any lip color, including red. It was a great shade of subtle shimmery white with great pigment. Now their shadows aren't that good, but back then it was my fave. If you apply it lightly it doesn't look harsh. I think her look was beautiful. Some people are just "safe" and go for nudes.

I don't like white eyeshadow in general. It always ends up looking harsh!

This was totally my look in 1998! I used clown make-up to get the perfect, opaque white.

I like her hair but I think her makeup looks awful here.
