The Human Hair Castle Sculpture by Artist Agustina Woodgate

Artist Agustina Woodgate is known for her whimsical and slightly creepy explorations of childhood amusements in a more adult context, and her sculpture "Towers" is one of the most uncanny pieces she's created thus far. Keep reading to find out what, exactly, this keep is made of.

If the castle here reminds you of Rapunzel, you're right on, because it's literally constructed out of human hair. Woodgate molded each of the tiny "bricks" making up the tower walls from people's hair, using brown, black, and gray colors for the majority of the "masonry," silver-gray and red for the string courses, and blond hair for the window accents.

It's an interesting commentary on both building materials and the structure of fairy tale narratives, but compared to other uses of hair for artistic purposes, what do you think of Woodgate's "organic" (i.e. made of people) medium?
