Jason Wu to Launch CND Nail Polishes in May

Designer Jason Wu Breaks Into the Nail Polish Biz

At Jason Wu's show today, models walked the runway wearing nail polish shades from Jason Wu Nail Color and Effects Collection by CND ($47). Heading into the beauty realm is a first for Wu, and in turn, it's CND's first direct partnership with a designer.

"Every season I play with different ways of using color in my collection, so it was a natural choice to collaborate with CND on a capsule of nail colors that reflects my aesthetics," Wu told WWD. Available in May, the stylish palette features four staple colors: Miss Wu (a limestone gray), Brigitte (a dirty rose), Veronica (a blood red, seen here on a model), and Sophia (a dark mushroom). The effect topcoat, named Anna, will contain silk fragments to provide depth. Will you check out this collection when warmer weather arrives once again?

You know, I think the colors are beautiful and fashion-forward (despite opinions of some of the overseas fashion bloggers, who apparently don't enjoy them). What confuses me is why the brand would advertise them now -- at the MSRP no less -- but not make them available for eight months?? What if we wanted to wear Sofia to work as the perfect fall neutral, or Veronica for the holidays? Those don't exactly strike me as spring colors. Plus, we have a recession. I'd think they'd want to sell what they could, while they could. Any ideas?
