Last night on The Price of Beauty, the crew headed to Tokyo to experience Japanese aesthetics. They had fun with a bunch of extremely tolerant geishas and played around in Harajuku, but the most interesting part of the show was when they went in to meet a woman considering blepharoplasty, commonly called double eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty is the most popular cosmetic procedure in Japan and South Korea and is designed to make eyes look bigger by stitching up part of the lid. Jessica Simpson and company were pretty stunned (though CaCee Cobb pointed out that it's all about wanting bigger breasts in the US, so it's not that different), but a lot of the cultural factors in play went unexamined. Still, it was refreshing to see a woman talk openly about the surgery. Check out the video for more.
