Did You Like Jessica Simpson's Beauty Show?

Last night, on the first episode of Jessica Simpson's new show, The Price of Beauty, Jess and her friends went to Thailand. The show hit some of the big points of Thai beauty culture: massages, lightening products that can damage your skin, the Buddhist take on inner beauty, and a visit to the Karen Hill Tribe, famous for the brass rings women wear around their necks. It was a lot to pack into a half-hour time slot, and the show was interesting enough that I wish it were longer. Did you catch The Price of Beauty? If so, what did you think?

I thought it was going to be more like a documentary but it seemed more like watching Jessica get beauty treatments, facials, and massages. And while I wasn't watching someone get completely pampered, I was watching her be loud and obnoxious. It was hard to watch at times. They spent a good 10 minutes retching in the market place over the bugs. I felt bad for their Thai beauty liaison.

It's Jessica :P I don't expect her to act like some eloquent ambassador. She's a ditz and can be painful to watch at times but I really do like her. She seems genuine. That fortune teller scene was funny. :D Good luck in love indeed. I'll have to catch the full episode sometime. Hopefully she and her friends do become more aware as the show goes on; they just can't be running around gagging at the sight of peculiar foods. That can really offend people.

I agree with everyone who said she could have acted a little more intelligent and a little less entitled American. Great concept. I'm hoping it gets better.

Fabulous concept, horrible choice of host. I don't understand Jessica Simpson--she's at the head of a clothing and shoe company that makes half a billion or something crazy like that in sales every year, so the girl can't be as dimwitted as she comes off on screen. If she's survived in Hollywood this far, she must have some brains. I wish that she'd dump the "I'M SO CUTE AND BLOND YAY ME!!" attitude--it would make this show a lot more enjoyable. It seemed like the Jessica Simpson show with a bit of culture thrown in here and there.

I loved it. I do wish it were longer too. But come on people, you all know Jessica's personality, were you honestly expecting someone different? I knew exactly what I signed up for watching this. I thought it was great, and touching to see how it affected her. She IS American, so of course she will act like one. She's educating herself on other cultures by travelling there. She's lucky to be able to do so. I wish I could!

I wish it were longer, because it seems like there was a lot more to examine than what got covered in just 20 minutes. For instance, the popularity and danger of whitening creams is interesting; I wish we'd seen a little more about it and gotten into the politics and history behind them. But then again, I geek out over that sort of thing.

I will watch a few more episodes before forming an opinion. She did act a bit stupid, and was not as serious as she could have been. However, that trip was her first one. Maybe the longer the series goes on and the more places she visited, she became more culturally aware. I've always liked her because even if she is a bit ditzy, she owns up to it and doesn't try to pretend she's smarter than she is like many other starlets do.

I think the concept is amazing and I am really glad Jessica Simpson is hosting the show. I know she can be a ditz, but I feel she is extremely genuine. I am really looking forward to the rest of the show.

I liked it, but I completely missed on of the segments when I made myself a snack. It was a lot to pack into one show and I wish the segments weren't so short.

I am dissapointed that she acted like a total American rather than respecting the culture and taking it in. This show had potential. But unfortunately, She completely missed the point. Too bad for her. I was embarassed for her. She is exactly the reason other countries dislike American tourists.

I didn't get a chance to watch it although I love the subject matter of global beauty and the things women do in the name of beauty around the world. However, from Spiderlove's review, perhaps Jessica's not the right person to be presenting the show...maybe if they got a local celebrity or beauty authority to co-present along with an american person then it would be more watchable (and interesting)

I watched it hoping she would totally shine and this might be her moment. Not so. I thought she was as dumb as a box of rocks, and acted like a spoiled American the whole time. My fiance actually asked "How on earth does this girl exist in the world?"... I also think bringing Caycee and Ken along was a bad idea. Maybe if she'd done it "alone", it would've been better. I wanted it to work out for her, but sadly, I learned nothing and her personality was irritating. :(
