Everyone's been talking about Katy Perry's latest mystical music video, "This Is How We Do." With the kooky outfits and Pee-wee Herman-esque dance squad, it's a lot of eye candy to take in. But as beauty editors, we had a singular focus: the hair and makeup, of course. Although "singular" isn't quite the right word, because her persona changes every five seconds!

Makeup artist Jake Bailey was tasked with creating 10 looks on shoot day. He even bleached Katy's eyebrows to create a blank canvas. "Brow bleaching is a fun and easy way to completely transform your look," he explained. "We had a lot of changes to make throughout the shoot, so I designed a look that could be adjusted easily to create entirely new looks without completely redoing the makeup." The Basics

To get the most definition, Bailey applied black eyeliner pencil to the lash line and waterline underneath the upper lid. He also pressed liner between the lashes and used CoverGirl Bombshell Intensity Liner ($9) to draw the "Katy cat eye."

He then added the Katy Perry for Eylure Lashes in Oh, My ($7) to her natural lashes, swiping on a few coats of mascara to blend. This eye look served as the foundation for every other look. Bailey just swapped out the shadow and lipstick depending on the scene.

'60s Flair

'60s Flair

For the multicolored faux-fur look (top photo), Bailey got color inspiration from the clothes and applied LipPerfection in Yummy ($8). Then, he added a strong line in the crease of the eye with CoverGril Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Molten Black ($5)

Bailey used the same shadow to increase the crease definition for the '60s-inspired look with the yellow dress and Vidal Sassoon-esque asymmetrical bob. He then switched the lip color to LipPerfection in Hot ($8) and added a row of lashes on the bottom lids for that Twiggy style.
